Upgrade Your Wrist - Rotonde de Cartier à grande complication
Pure class isn’t only popular for one season. 2007’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie presented the Cartier Libre collection, diamond timepieces set in the most avant-garde designs only Cartier can pull off without making tacky. Each watch is in classic circular timepiece shape distorted in a Dali-esque fashion – oversized numbers surrounded by diamond curves. The exception of this style is the Rotonde de Cartier a grande complication watch, a platinum piece decorated with a sapphire cabochon and 18-karat-gold dial on a hand-sewn alligator wristband. The pieces may have launched last year, but their beauty remains forever. Urwerk Sells World's First Compressed Air Powered Watch
We're big fans of wristwatches that combine sleek design with outstanding function, and the new Urwerk 202 fills the bill better than most time pieces we've seen. Let's start out with the fact that the UR-202 is the world's first compressed air powered wristwatch. Instead of a traditional rotating vane, the 202 uses miniature twin turbines to control the rate of automatic winding. Plus, the level of air compression generated by the turbines can actually be controlled using a 3-position selector switch. Now that's pretty cool.As much as we like the way the UR-202 winds itself, we're more intrigued with the design of the watch. If you check out this video, you'll see that the UR-202 features a distinctive time display. The hour is shown using a series of rotating circles, which points down towards a display that marks the minutes.
Urwerk offers a number of different designs for the UR-202 including red gold, white gold, black PE-CVD Platinum and TiAlN. As of now no pricing information is available, but we'd expect these to cost a pretty penny.

About Dubey & Schaldenbrand
The revival of Dubey & Schaldenbrand started as a homage to the past with Cinette Robert deciding to open her vault containing her fabulous old movement collection. (During the 1970's and early 1980's, Cinette Robert was one of the few visionaries that toured all manufacturers in order to purchase watch movements and components). With the emergence of the quartz era during this particular period, many manufacturers of mechanical movements lost all hope. Their products had become a commodity seemingly without future and, of a value of merely its weight! Cinette Robert bought whatever she could and ended up with a treasure chest of over 6,000 vintage movements.
Recasing each movement according to the era when it was created, the Dubey & Schaldenbrand designs rapidly found a niche with collectors.
With these limited editions always being sold out, it became time for Cinette Robert to launch a new collection based upon modern, automatic movements. Modern does not mean that the same care and attention was not to be used. Quite the contrary. From the movement engravers to the dial and hand makers, they all shared the same vision and love for the things of the past.

Watches Made from Titanic’s Hull

A watch worth $152,435 must be made from something unique. A Swiss jeweler is now offering watches, which have been made from the hull of the doomed Titanic. The metal has been mixed with contemporary shipbuilding steel to make the casing of the timepieces. The black dials have been made by mixing the recovered coal burned in the Titanic’s furnaces with ceramics. The watches dubbed Titanic-DNA will be made in a limited run of 2,012 as a reference to the 100th anniversary of the disaster in five years’ time. So, £75K tag is too high. Don’t worry as the Titanic watches range in price from £4,500 to £75,000 depending on the material used, such as steel, silver or gold with diamonds.

Omega De Ville Central Tourbillon Co-Axial Chronometer
Invented over 200 years ago, the tourbillon movement is still considered the pinnacle of watchmaking. This year OMEGA rises to the challenge and takes this jewel of haute horlogerie into the 21st century by introducing the Co-Axial escapement into the movement. Furthermore, this De Ville chronometer places the tourbillon in the centre of the movement and as is fitting of such an achievement, the tourbillon and its Co-Axial escapement are visible through the dial. The materials and aesthetics match the daring of this mechanical innovation: the tourbillon cage is made of titanium and the bridges and plates are finished in a striking chocolate brown colour. The movement is housed in a 38.7 mm 18-carat red gold case with matching red gold hands, screws and wheels.Invented by the Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1801, the perpetual rotation of the tourbillon cage was designed to compensate the effect of gravity on the escapement and thus make the watch more precise. Still valued for their mechanical mastery, to this day tourbillon watches are assembled by hand and only a few pieces can be produced each year by highly qualified master watchmakers. OMEGA has been producing tourbillons since 1947 and is proud to create the Central Tourbillon, testimony to the company’s knowledge and craftsmanship. Its intricate construction and reduced size make this mechanism a rarity much sought after by serious collectors of horological masterpieces.
The unusual and intriguing dial of this unique watch is a work of art in its own right and adds a modern twist to the beauty of the tourbillon, which is visible in its entirety through the sapphire glass with an anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The sapphire glass dial reveals the exceptional level of thought and detail that has gone into this timepiece. The colour of the hands and screws matches the 18-carat red gold of the seconds track and hour markers; however, adding a contemporary look, the plate and bridges are an unusual rich brown colour. This is achieved using a treatment of PVD-physical vapour deposition. Sun brushing the metal creates additional texture and adds depth to the bridges.
The tourbillon takes pride of place in full view at the centre of the watch and makes one revolution every minute. The seconds hand is mounted on the tourbillon cage and matching the red gold motif of this watch, an Alpha-shaped red gold insert is set into the tip of the hand. This seconds hand sweeps over the small etched dots that make up the red gold seconds track. With the tourbillon mechanism in full view at the centre of the watch, a unique system is used to display the time. Gold Alpha-style hour and minute hands are etched on to two separate sapphire discs with an anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The two discs rotate around the centre axis to display the time. Facetted and diamond polished solid gold indexes are applied at 12, 3 and 6 o’clock.

Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Jackpot Tourbillon
More than original, the Vintage 1945 Jackpot Tourbillon shakes up accepted traditions. Who thought that the precision of the greatest watchmaking complications could never harmonize with the uncertainty of games of chance? Girard-Perregaux merges these two worlds in one exclusive Haute Horlogerie model of unexpected complexity. For the first time, a watch combines a Tourbillon and a slot machine equipped with a striking mechanism in perfect proportion with the Vintage 1945 case.
Slot machine mechanism
The handle on the side of the case is connected to a rack. By pulling the handle, the rack slides up. When the rack reaches its highest point, and only then (a so called “all or nothing mechanism”), it starts the reels spinning and slowly slides back down. When it has returned approximately two thirds of the way, it activates stoppers, which stop the reels one by one and synchronically activates the striking mechanism.
Vegas baby Vegas!

Baselworld 2007 – Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Le Chronographe
According to TimeZone:The new Masterpiece Le Chronographe in stainless steel features the new ML 106-2 manufacture movement, which was conceived and developed entirely in Maurice Lacroix’ own technical department in Saignelégier last year.
The Maurice Lacroix manufacture ML 106-2 chronograph movement is a work of superlatives and a true original. Moreover, with uniquely grand proportions for a wristwatch chronograph it is a genuine technical accomplishment.
Maurice Lacroix’ new design has minimised this risk – it guarantees the correct positioning of the individual chronograph components, and hence the accuracy of the information displayed, by pressing the blocker against the wheels for longer than was heretofore possible.
This rare 60-minute counter demands a significantly higher level of watchmaking complexity and is far more difficult to manufacture than the familiar 30- or 45-minute counter. The ML 106-2 calibre also features top-quality components, like a swan neck precision adjustment and two genuine gold chatons in the chronograph bridge.
The case, in stainless steel and features two sapphire crystals, the top one being AR coated. The dial is solid sterling silver 925 in anthracite finish .
Pretty badass...
