Team Canada's DJs Set The Gold Standard

DJs Grandtheft and D.R. One really hit it off when they started playing and promoting parties together, and realized that they offered much more as a team than individually. In 2004 the Canadian hockey fans decided on the name Team Canada for their DJ crew. Since coming together they've been securing residencies in clubs around the world with their two-pronged attack. Grandtheft's producing skills can't be matched, while D.R. One is one of the most well respected battle DJs from Canada.

Whenever you bring up the name Team Canada to clubgoers who have seen the boys in action, you're likely to hear the word energy in response. These guys bring an incredible amount of energy to any party they play, whether it's a gig for 100 in their hometown of Montreal or an appearance in front of 10,000 people opening up for the Black Eyed Peas. You can't beat the wide-ranging record collection of Team Canada or the live remixes they throw down on a nightly basis.

The A-List gigs have been steady since Team Canada signed with DJ AM's management team last fall. In fact, Team Canada recently played at Paris Hilton's Birthday Party at Pure in Las Vegas. When they aren't gigging at the world's most famous venues, you can probably find them at their new club in Montreal, The Blue Dog Hotel.

Not content with their own success the boys recently branched out into artist management. They've recruited four of Canada's top club DJs (Jr. Flo from Toronto, Illo from Ottawa, Calgary's Pump and Vancouver's Hedspin) to form The Eh! Team. For more information on Team Canada and The Eh! Team be sure to check out their website.

The PimpWiz.com Bottom Line: We expect big things in 2008 from the DJ team of Grandtheft and D.R. One, aka Team Canada

Shout out to Jonny White for the tip ;-)

Bob Dylan's 5 Best Albums

I was at my local bar the other night and someone asked me if I were ever to be stranded on a desert island and could only bring 5 Bob Dylan albums, which ones would I bring?

I couldn't answer him right away, and not because I had already had a good buzz after drinking four bottles of Miller Lite (note: I'm a lightweight), I had to think about that for a while because I really love Bob Dylan. Wait, let me rephrase that, I REALLY LOVE BOB DYLAN! For anyone even remotely aware of American pop culture over the past 40 years, it would be tough to miss the direct impact and lasting influence of Dylan's songs. I needed time to get back in touch with ALL things B-O-B!

So after spending a WHOLE week revisiting all my Dylan albums in iTunes, I compiled these 5 as the very ones I'd like to have with me if I were stranded on a desert island. And with this list I hope I can introduce the genius of Dylan to people walking around now who've never heard of the guy, or have no awareness of him beyond simple name recognition.

So if I was stranded on a desert island and could only have 5 Bob Dylan albums on my iPhone, which ones would I bring? Here's my list...

Kraak and Smaak Arrive On The Scene

Holland has never been a country known for being a hot bed of musical talent, but Dutch dance trio Kraak and Smaak could be the best export from the Netherlands since cheese. Kraak and Smaak mix jazz, funk, and hip hop with new wave and break beat to create their own unique style of music. Lately the band has won fans on both sides of the globe with their smash hit Squeeze Me.

The three members of Kraak and Smaak met through a series of chance meetings in 2003. The team of Mark Kneppers, Oscar De Jong and Wim Plug quickly gelled, and started winning over audiences wherever they played. In 2005 they won the Best Newcomer in Holland award, and continue to garner praise from the likes of BBC Radio 1 and Perez Hilton. Whereas most Dutch dance music relies on trace music, Kraak and Smaak offer a more funky, danceable blend of tracks.

Recently Kraak and Smaak have started mixing live shows in with their DJ sets. In fact the trio has been booked for a live set at this year's Glastonbury Festival as well as Barcelona's famed Festival Cruilla de Culture. The Kraak and Smaak crew also focuses on making remixes for the likes of Jamiroquai, Richard Dorfmeister, 4Hero, Bitter:Sweet, Mark Rae and Soul of Man amongst others. In turn, K&S got the same treatment from Sharam Jey and Henrik Schwarz .

For a taste of Kraak and Smaak's groovy tunes check out their MySpace page. The guys plan to spend the summer on the European festival circuit, but hopefully they'll return to the States in the fall. If you'd like to find out more about R&S here's an interview with the trio by DJ Ron Slomowicz.

The PimpWiz.com Bottom Line: Kraak and Smaak's music breaks boundaries to deliver the goods. Pop in Squeeze Me next time you want to see the ladies get down.

Be Your Own DJ and Make A Mixtape

Over the past few years we've been looking for a quick and easy way to share playlists without much success. Some of the methods we've found either required a tedious sign-up process or were so complicated to use that it just wasn't worth the hassle. After reading a post on Down By Hipster about Muxtape, we've finally found a simple mixtape service that is easy to use.

Muxtape was made for one thing, and one thing only: creating and sharing mixtape like MP3 playlists with your friends. Simply take about 30 seconds to sign up for the site, and then you can start uploading away to your Muxtape page. Once you've finished preparing your playlist just send the address of your Muxtape page (yourname.muxtape.com) to anyone you want.

Once Muxtape starts catching on with the masses, we wouldn't be surprised if every indie band also gets in on the act. We especially like that you don't need to sign up for the service to hear someone's Muxtape. You only need an account if you'd like to make your own Muxtape. So head over to Muxtape and create a "mixtape" for the girl of your dreams just like you did in high school.

The PimpWiz.com Bottom Line: The mixtape lives on at Muxtape.com

Metal Skool

Los Angeles, California based glam metal parody band. Originally formed as Metal Shop they're known for their energetic live show, the longest running metal show on the Sunset Strip [1]. Onstage, the band both pays tribute to and lampoons the heyday of 80's glam metal. The band's between-song comedy includes jests at conflict between band members, discussions of drugs, sex, and improvised humor with the crowd.

The band members have all adopted pseudonyms in the spirit of the bands they imitate. Their line up is billed as: drummer "Stix Zadinia" (real name Darren Leader), guitarist "Satchel" (real name Russ Parrish), singer "Michael Starr," (real name Ralph Saenz) and bassist "Lexxi Foxxx (real name Travis Haley)."

Saenz is the current lead singer for the Van Halen tribute band the "Atomic Punks", and was lead singer for L.A. Guns for a short period of time.

Recently the band moved to the Key Club on the Sunset Strip where their shows have been selling out regularly. They continue to play other regular gigs in the Southern California area including a weekly show in San Diego, California; one in Cabazon, California; and a weekly show at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. They've been featured on the cover of All Access Magazine , and won their award for "Best Tribute Band in the Universe." The San Diego Union-Tribune has called them "the ultimate '80s heavy metal tribute."

Onstage Guests
Metal Skool frequently invites high-profile guests at their shows (celebrities and musicians) onstage to "crowd participate," and a number of these incidents have been caught on film. They are usually invited to join the band onstage for a song, sometimes temporarily replacing band members. Joined by Nuno Bettencourt and Sully Erna, singer Michael Starr quipped, "Hey, I finally get to play with real musicians!"

Notable onstage guests and songs include:

* Jeremy Piven, who plays Ari on the hit HBO show Entourage played the drums onstage. [6]
* David Bryan, keyboard player of Bon Jovi joined the band after being spotted in the audience. [7]
* Tony Romo and Dennis Haskins (the actor who played Mr. Belding on Saved by the Bell) appeared onstage together and sang Journey's Don't Stop Believing.
* Kip Winger of Winger sang Journey's Don't Stop Believing. [15]
* The Rev from Avenged Sevenfold and Phil Anselmo appeared onstage together. [18]
* Pink sang Skid Row's "18 & Life" [19]
* Lil Jon singing "Jump" by Van Halen [25]

Google Me - Teyana Taylor

She's only 17 years old and she's already being touted as the next big thing by Pharell, who signed her to his record label.

With the release of her debut album, From A Planet Called Harlem (Star Trak/Intersope), Teyana finally gets to show off her killer pipes and full-bodied flow to the rest of the universe. The album is a macrocosm of R&B, pop rock, and rap and deliciously rich with sticky hooks and campy lyrical play. "From the songs to the production — the whole direction of the album is insane," explains the Star Trak maverick. "It's a story about having fun."

Of course, the stylish femcee reps NYC to the fullest but it's her offbeat, 'afronaut' edge that makes her such an undeniable rockstar — she's a seamless blend of hip hop hipster and skater chick. Her hybrid musical style is as rebellious and eclectic as her personality and that's not the result of a brilliant marketing squad. Just peep her iTunes playlist and you'll find her rocking out to My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Lauren Hill, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.

With production from sonic architects like Jazze Pha, Pharrell, Mad Scientist, Frost, Shondre and Hit Boy, Teyana's first solo offering has the rumblings of a party-pumping earthquake. The mix of throwback break beats, futuristic boom bap, and melodic renderings is the perfect backdrop for the starlet's musical mayhem.

Ryan Ferguson Interview

When Ryan Ferguson, singer of the band No Knife, strutted up to the stage to accept a 1999 San Diego Music Award for Best Punk Album, he chided, "Well tonight we officially found out we're a punk band now."

Anyone who knows Ryan's accomplishments can understand the humor in this. Two years prior, No Knife won an award for Best Rock Album. Then in 2003, they won again, but this time it was for Best Alternative Album. Ryan has since then gone solo, but hasn't lost any of his momentum. He even won the San Diego Award for Best Pop Album in 2005.

His versatility makes one's head spin, but Ryan doesn't place much importance on classifying himself, and maybe we shouldn't try to either.

Our interview with Ryan was just like his lyrics, honest and articulate. Ryan was very forthcoming and spoke openly about everything from his break with No Knife to his busty friend Candace on MySpace and his freaky cats. Enjoy!

Ameican Music Awards - You Pick The Winners!

It might not have the same prestige as the Grammy's or same notoriety as the VMA's, but the American Music Awards have put their own stamp on the award show world. The show has come a long way since it's first airing in 1973 when Micheal Jackson and Donnie Osmond were the hosts. And this year they're taking the show to a whole new level by letting you, the viewers decide who takes home a trophy.

The nominees were announced yesterday in Beverly Hills by R&B songstress Ashanti and Disney Channel singers the Jonas Brothers. Lot's of popular musicians made the cut, but it was Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Linkin Park and Daughtry who ended up earning the most nods. But who really keeps track of who wins these things? It's all about the music, and you can expect to see Daughtry as well as Rihanna, Celine Dion and Fergie rockin' it out on the AMA stage. And there's sure to be many more hot stars added to the performers and presenters lists over the next few weeks.

Here's a quick rundown of who's nominated for what in the lead categories:

Radiohead Says Name Your Own Price for New Album

Radiohead is making its newest album, In Rainbows, available online at whatever price point consumers feel they should pay for it. The 10-track album will be released as a digital download starting October 10th. The announcement was made online by Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood.

When users try to order In Rainbows on Radiohead.com, they will see a question mark next to a blank price box. If you click on the question mark, the message "It’s up to you" comes up. A subsequent screen reassures fans: "No really, it’s up to you."

Unfortunately, because In Rainbows will only be available on Radiohead's website, the album will not be eligible for chart ranking. It's too bad. I'm sure they'd be #1.

The band, led by Thom Yorke, are also planning a traditional CD release of In Rainbows for early 2008 that they will publish themselves. Radiohead decided not to use a record label after fulfilling their contract with EMI following their 2003 album 'Hail to the Thief.'

Did Radiohead just hammer the last nail into the record industry's coffin or make a huge mistake? Time will tell. In the meantime, at least we can't get busted for downloading a torrent of In Rainbows.

Kanye Defeats 50 Cent

It was a battle royale of rap royalty on the charts last week as Kanye West dropped his new album "Graduation" on the same day as 50 Cent's new joint, "Curtis". And these two made sure everyone knew about their rivalry, by getting up in each others faces on the cover of Rolling Stone and on the MTV Movie Awards. Without a doubt, all the ruckus they made about their rivalry helped sales for both of them. But ultimately it was Kanye who came out the champ, moving 957,000 units in just one week! Not only did this crush 50's 691k finish, it also set a record for the highest debut sales in two years.

Hopefully this will soothe Kanye's ego; the man has been complaining non stop recently about being snubbed for performances and awards by MTV. But it's 50 who we should be worrying the most about, especially since he threatened to quit the business if outsold by Kanye. He also told MTV, "I feel like Kanye West is successful because of me. After 50 Cent, [hip-hop fans] was looking for something non-confrontational, and they went after first thing that came along. That was Kanye West, and his record took off." Did 50 forsee his future? I think so, beause this all sounds like hype and excuses to me.

So, Kanye has won the battle for now, but will he win the war? Most likely, but who knows what kind of tricks 50 cent might pull out of his sleeve.

The 2007 MTV Video Music Award

The 2006 MTV Video Music Awards were a bust. There were none of the pop culture-antics that historically have made MTV’s signature award show such an event—no three-way lesbian kisses, no rappers feuding with inanimate dog puppets, no surprise Michael Jackson appearances, just three and a half hours of over-rehearsed jokes and predictable winners (a side effect of letting viewers decide the results instead of industry professionals). Viewers complained and ratings plummeted.

So what’s going to stop the 2007 awards from being a similar disaster? Timbaland, hopefully. MTV has tapped the longtime behind-the-scenes hitmaker turned camera-mugging TV personality to curate the event’s live performances, and he’s pulled in a much stronger line-up than usual. Cee-Lo, Common, Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Foo Fighters, Fall Out Boy and Chris Brown are among the scheduled performers.

Although visa issues (and very-public personal issues) have thwarted plans for a rumored Lily Allen/Amy Winehouse team-up, there should be no shortage of historic moments. Britney Spears is slated to give her first television performance following years of pregnancy and tabloid-documented public drunkeness, and it promises to be either a lavish spectacle or an unforgettable train wreck. Akon will attempt to undo his recent bad publicity and reclaim his nice-guy image. Meanwhile, Spears’ ex, Justin Timberlake, will do double duty, backing Timbaland on “Give it To Me” and 50 Cent on “Ayo Technology.”

50, of course, will perform like a man with something to prove. The singles from his forthcoming album, Curtis, have mostly fizzled, so he’s at a disadvantage heading into his Sept. 11 sales showdown against Kanye West, who, incidentally, will be at the VMAs performing his much-hotter single, “Stronger,” which has already conquered the charts.

Ayo, 50: If Kanye’s performance kills, you have virtually no chance of outselling him on Tuesday.

Freestyle Old School Explosion

WHEN: Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 7:30pm,
WHAT: The Freestyle Old School Explosion
WHO: Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock, Stevie B., Expose, Trinere, Company B, Stacey Q, MC Magic of NB Ridaz, Sophia Maria, Sugar Hill Gang, , Grandmaster Flash & the Furious 5 Featuring Melle Mel & Scorpio, and Frankie Smith
WHERE: Orleans Arena @ Gold Coast Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV
WHY: Why Not?

The title-track single, "It Takes Two", from their debut album, Profile, became a street sensation upon its release in mid-1988 for Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock. Though the single just barely reached the R&B Top 20 and Pop Top 40, massive club airplay enhanced its impact considerably. Both the single and album eventually went platinum, and Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock gained Single of the Year honors both in Spin and The Village Voice. The second single, "Get on the Dance Floor," continued Base's dance appeal, though his excellent rapping helped him retain his street credentials.

A native of South Florida, Stevie B came on to the scene in the late 80s and produced a number of dance hits like "I Wanna Be The One" and "I'll Be By Your Side." He is perhaps best-known for his number-one hit "Because I Love You (The Postman Song)," enjoying four weeks at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in December of 1990.

Exposé, the all female Latin band, formed in 1984, had their biggest hit, in the winter of 1988, with the Billboard Hot 100 number one single "Seasons Change." Along with that came a Soul Train Award nomination for Best New Artist which Exposé surpassed The Beatles and The Supremes for having the most top 10 hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100 released from a single album; one of those being the notable hit, "Let Me Be The One." Exposure remains one of the most successful dance albums ever released, reaching triple platinum status.

The Sugar Hill Gang, an American hip hop and Funk group, is known for their biggest hit, "Rapper's Delight", the first hip hop single to become a Top 40 hit. The track uses the bass line from "Good Times" by Chic as its foundation. The members, all from New York City, called themselves Wonder Mike, Big Bank Hank, and Master Gee. They were assembled into a group by producer Sylvia Robinson who also founded Sugar Hill Records along with her husband record mogul Joe Robinson.

One of the pioneers of hip-hop DJing, cutting, and mixing, Grandmaster Flash formed his own group in the 1970s making Grandmaster Flash & the 3 MCs (with Melle Mel being the first rapper ever to call himself an "MC"). Two other rappers briefly joined, but they were replaced more permanently by Rahiem (Guy Todd Williams, previously in the Funky Four) and Scorpio (Eddie Morris, also used the name Mr. Ness) to create Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. They were the first hip-hop/rap group ever inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on March 12, 2007 by Jay-Z.

GYM CLASS HEROES: Clothes Off!!

Gym Class Heroes is a hip hop band from Geneva, New York. The band is best known for their Billboard Hot 100 top 5 single "Cupid's Chokehold" from The Papercut Chronicles. Rather than using the conventional tools of hip hop production, Gym Class Heroes use live instruments, similar to artists such as Stetsasonic, The Roots, k-os, and Crown City Rockers.

Gym Class Heroes' video for 'Clothes Off!!' from their album, As Cruel As School Children, in stores now

The band officially came together in 1999. The original GCH began playing birthday parties, clubs, and festivals which eventually led to numerous larger venues throughout the northeast, including two years on Warped Tour (2003, 2004).Gym Class Heroes first taste at success occurred after the release of "...For the Kids," lead singer Travis McCoy won MTV's Direct Effect MC Battle.

Gym Class Heroes had been gaining ground in the indie circuit and developing a cult following। ItsHipHop.Tv, an online entertainment network, was interested and later did a video tour blog with Gym Class Heroes on Riding Shotgun, their video tour blog show। After hearing the song "Taxi Driver", Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy invited the band to one of his shows. Gym Class Heroes then went on to join Pete Wentz's label, Decaydance Records, an imprint of Fueled by Ramen. Travis later said that Stump's support, coupled with the label's touring ethics and family atmosphere, led the band to signing with Decaydance/Fueled by Ramen. Gym Class Heroes appeared on the Warped Tour in the summer of 2005 and 2006. The band completed their leg of a tour with The All-American Rejects on November 29 in Las Vegas.

Yes, he has have a deep voice. No, he doesn't fake it. Yes, he looks young but really he is 25 years old. Crazy enough, Tayzon Day has never studied piano or voice formally. If you can't get enough of MJ, Jr. then all you have to do is download some of his videos. They have free MP3s and/or sheet music that you can download in the video details!

All we have to say is CHOCOLATE RAIN!!!

The above song was created by "Tay Zonday"

We figured you would want these powerful lyrics...

Chocolate Rain
Some stay dry and others feel the pain
Chocolate Rain
A baby born will die before the sin

Chocolate Rain
Forecast to be falling yesterday
Chocolate Rain
Only in the past is what they say

Chocolate Rain
Raised your neighborhood insurance rates
Chocolate Rain
Makes us happy 'livin in a gate

Chocolate Rain
Made me cross the street the other day
Chocolate Rain
Made you turn your head the other way

(Chorus)
Chocolate Rain
History quickly crashing through your veins
Chocolate Rain
Using you to fall back down again
[Repeat]

Chocolate Rain
Worse than swearing worse than calling names
Chocolate Rain
Say it publicly and you're insane

Chocolate Rain
Every February washed away
Chocolate Rain
Stays behind as colors celebrate

50 Cent gets Mo' Money

According to SixShot.com:
Coca-Cola's $4 billion purchase of Glaceau's Vitamin Water has been a minor talking point in a rather stagnant hip-hop world for the past few days, with a sticking point coming in the form of exactly how much was personally pocketed in the deal by rapper and Vitamin Water spokesman Curtis (50 Cent) Jackson. Estimates have ranged anywhere up to $400 million dollars in net profit for the rapper.

He's not the first celebrity to make a fortune as an early investor in a company. Adult contemporary star Kenny G was one the original ten Starbucks investors.

Meanwhile, executives at Interscope, the record label that 50 Cent is contracted to, are said to be highly disappointed at the lack of public interest in his latest singles "Straight To The Bank" and "Amusement Park". This is rumored to be a contributing factor in his latest LP entitled Curtis being delayed until September. 50 himself is said to be frustrated at the turn of events and is looking to salvage the situation. Reps for Interscope could not be reached.

Laryngitis hits Silverchair's Daniel Johns on Jay Leno show

Unfortunately Silverchair has postponed 4 California shows on their current U.S. Tour to allow singer, Daniel Johns to recover fully from a case of laryngitis. Daniel caught the viral throat infection earlier this week after flying from Sydney/Los Angeles/Toronto/New York/Los Angeles in just four days. As you might have heard, the laryngitis severely impeded Daniel's vocal performance on the "Tonight Show With Jay Leno" last Tuesday. If you haven't seen the video yet, here's a clip of the Leno performance I found on YouTube. It's tough to watch, especially if you've ever had laryngitis before. Daniel basically had to scream through the most of the song. When the camera zooms in on Daniel's face you can clearly see he looks like he's in pain.

While his Doctor had initially been hopeful that Daniel's laryngitis would clear up "in a day or two", he has since advised that the Silverchair frontman should "avoid singing for 4 to 6 days" in order to be guaranteed of making a full recovery. The Doctor also advised that singing during this time could risk permanent damage to Daniel's voice so the band has no choice but to reschedule the 4 California shows and to apologize to the fans who will be inconvenienced by this change.

Dates for the rest of Silverchair's Young Modern World Tour are not expected to be affected in any way by this temporary throat infection.

MethodShop.com recently did an interview with Silverchair. They were very excited about this new album and really looking forward to touring the U.S. again. I hope Daniel's laryngitis doesn't derail the tour too badly. They've had everything from an eating disorder to reactive arthritis screw up their previous tours.

Silverchair's new album, Young Modern, comes out July 24th.

Nirvana Baby Turns 17

Not only did Nirvana's 1991 album Nevermind knock Michael Jackson off the charts and end the reign of hair metal, but it also made an image of a little naked baby swimming after a dollar bill famous.

Who was that naked baby? His name is Spencer Eden and he just turned 17 this year. Feeling old yet? I am. The majority of Nirvana fans are now officially 30+.

I wonder if Spencer realizes that more people have seen his penis than Ron Jeremy's?

Seeqpod - Playable Search

If it's important to you to be able to find, discover, and manage music and videos on the Internet then check this out.

SeeqPod is a new breed of search and discovery technology provider, because they believe that one day, everything will be 'playable'.

Currently in Beta, SeeqPod's first consumer site empowers users by allowing them to search and discover music and video all over the Web. Their intelligent software robots work with targeted crawling systems to auto-submit content to the site. This, combined with user submissions, results in a large and rich search and discovery index. This process can be viewed in real-time via the PodCrawler.

'Playable Search' is made possible through biomimetic(yeah its a word...trust us) search & discovery technology, a method that mimics the way the human mind might use context to make and recall associations, an approach which relies on context by finding the hidden relationships in digital content and data.

Check it out...Its pretty sick
