Our Favorite Cars: 2006 Bugatti Veyron

Recently here at PimpWiz.com, we were talking about our favorite cars of all-time, and we all felt that the 2006 Bugatti Veyron was near the top of the list. How could you not love one of the fastest, most powerful and alarmingly expensive cars ever made? This mindblowing automobile takes after its namesake, the legendary Bugatti from the '20s and '30s.

The folks at Volkswagon spent four grueling years working out every single detail on the car, before starting production on the Bugatti Veyron. Bugatti planned to build 300 Veyrons, and the March 2008 issue of Winding Road reports that 220 of the 300 cars to be produced have been sold and 132 have been delivered to customers. Not bad for a car that retails for approximately $1.7 million.

What's so special about the Bugatti Veyron 16.4? Let's start with the gorgeous design of the vehicle. The car features futuristic lines, and the interior is beautifully designed with ergonomically laid-out controls. You also can't top the power of this beast. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 can go from 0-62 mph in just 2.5 seconds, and can reach speeds of 200mph within 24 seconds. This is all thanks to one of the most powerful engines in the industry.

You'd think a car as powerful as the Veyron couldn't be safe, but you'd be wrong. All of the car's safety systems have been designed to sustain its unbelievable performance, acceleration and speed. Of course all this speed, safety and function requires a ridiculous amount of gas; as the Veyron uses more fuel than any other production car. For much more on the 2006 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 check out the stats over at RSSportscars.

The PimpWiz.com Bottom Line: You can't find a more powerful car than the 2006 Bugatti Veyron 16.4.

BMW Hydrogen 7

There's really nothing better these days than a car that looks slick and is good for the environment as well. That's the perfect way to describe the BMW Hydrogen 7. This luxury sedan was originally released in late 2006, and what was special about it was it's ability to run on gas and hydrogen. The original car had two gas tanks; one that held 30 gallons of -253° Centigrade liquid hydrogen and another that held 19.5 gallons of regular old gasoline. It sounds great, considering it uses less gas than hydrogen, but there was one huge downside; the hydrogen tank would only get you about 125 miles, while the gas tank could take you 310 more. So much for being environmentally conscious!

But thankfully BMW is taking this idea and improving upon it. The new Hydrogen 7 will be completely free of a gas tank. Yes, you read that right; and no, you won't be stuck on the freeway in rush hour after going only 125 miles. BMW is already saying this new and improved version of the car will have a higher level of performance. In other words, you'll hopefully be able to get where you're going and back again.

Look for this ride to make it's debut at the 2008 National Hydrogen Association Conference and the 2008 SAE World Congress in April. If it's a success, this is one auto that deserves some serious looking into. Not only will it save you mucho money at the pump, but you'll also be riding in style while doing something great for the earth. And that's always hot.

As Dr. James says "The results are clear – all controllers will be amazed by the handling ability – the best any radio controlled vehicle has had to date. The vehicle is capable of climbing a 407mm vertical wall, traverse a 40% side slope and operate in up to 610mm of water – imagine the fun."

The Hummer H3 is available to order now from $53,000 on the road.

"...we don't stop playing because we get old;
we get old because we stop playing."

HUMMER, the world's most iconic boy's toy, has converted the new right-hand drive H3 into the ultimate gadget for grown ups - a life sized remote controlled car that definitely won't be available in your local toyshop.

The hardy on/off road vehicle has been converted to make life a little less dull – those lucky enough to have a play, will experience the unrivaled agility and off-road capability of the new H3 from the palm of their hand.

Engineer Dr. James Brighton from Cranfield University transformed the HUMMER H3 into a remote controlled vehicle to create the ultimate boy's toy:
"Converting the HUMMER H3 into the super-sized remote control car took a month to complete but we've had lots of fun in the process.

The results are clear – all controllers will be amazed by the handling ability – the best any radio controlled vehicle has had to date. The vehicle is capable of climbing a 407mm vertical wall, traverse a 40% side slope and operate in up to 610mm of water – imagine the fun"

Koenigsegg CCXR - World's Fastest Biofuel Supercar

When you think of environmentally friendly cars, speed isn't usually one of the first things that comes to mind. Swedish car manufacturer Koenigsegg aims to change that with the introduction of the new special edition CCXR Supercar. The ethanol burning Koeningsegg CCXR Supercar is the second most powerful production car in the world, with only slightly less power than the SSC Ultimate Aero TT. This one-of-a-kind supercar can go from 0-100 in 2.9 seconds and has top travel speeds of 400km/h.

The CCXR sports a cast-aluminum V8 engine with 1,018hp capable of running on biofuel. Koeningsegg's new car runs on E85 biofuel consisting of 85% ethanol and 15% unleaded. Ironically the burning of ethanol cools the combustion chamber allows for higher pressure in the cylinder. Add that to biofuel's increased octane rating and you get one incredibly fast sports car. But the CCXR isn't just a speedy car, it's also a beautifully designed automobile with a removable roof.

Koenigsegg designed the CCXR as a follow-up to their ultra sleek CCX model. CCX owners will have the option of having their cars converted to the same engine specification as the CCXR for approximately $100,000. The Swedish car manufacturer will continue to produce the CCX, as biofuel isn't widely available yet.

If you're interested in purchasing one of these bad boys get ready to shell out around 3 million dollars, according to some estimates. Our friends at Trendhunter have the first photos and a video of the production model.

Galleria Ferrari offers a Scarlet ticket! Win a day at the factory and track!

Galleria Ferrari, the official Ferrari museum, is offering a once in a lifetime opportunity to car aficionados. The 200,000th visitor of 2007 to the Galleria in Maranello, Italy will receive a scarlet ticket, which entitles the winner and their guest to spend the day at the factory and have lunch at the famous Ristorante Cavallino. After lunch the winners will get to take a few laps at the Fiorano test track with one of the factory test drivers.

We're not surprised that attendance is booming at the Galleria Ferrari, because we've heard great things about the exhibit celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Italian sports car manufacturer. Many of the firm's iconic sports cars are currently on display, as well as posters, photographs and prizes from throughout Ferrari's history. Auto enthusiasts are sure to have a special experience, whether they win the contest or not.

If we were visiting Northern Italy in the next few weeks, we'd be sure to visit the museum and the Ristorante Cavallino. Founder Enzo Ferrari would eat at Ristorante Cavallino on a daily basis, and currently the landmark eatery contains a collection of helmets of former and current Ferrari F-1 drivers. You can be sure to see a stream of Ferraris pass by as you enjoy your meal. The Galleria and restaurant are located down the block from the current Ferrari factory.

Built in 1988 and inaugurated in February of 1990, The Galleria is open every day from 9:30am to 6:00pm with the exception of Christmas and New Years Eve. Tickets are priced at 12euros per, and can be purchased directly from the museum. For more information on the Galleria Ferrari check out their website at.

John Z. DeLorean - The Man, The Myth, The Legend

John Zachary DeLorean (January 6, 1925 – March 19, 2005) was an American engineer and executive in the U.S. automobile industry, and founder of the DeLorean Motor Company.

At some point in 1982, John DeLorean became the target of an FBI sting operation designed to arrest drug trafficking criminals. DeLorean was popularly viewed as one of the auto industry's most charismatic figures. He was handsome and dashing, and the independent motor company that he had founded and which bore his name was lauded as a brave attempt to take on the Detroit "big guys." But on Wall Street it was a different story: whispers of DeLorean's financial difficulties were rampant, centered on the increasing problems at his Northern Ireland factory, and few expected the company to remain solvent for long. No one, though, was prepared for the stunning events of October 19.

That was the day when DeLorean was arrested in Los Angeles and charged with conspiracy to distribute $24 million worth of cocaine. Federal officials were cock-a-hoop, crowing that more than 100 hours of audio and video surveillance had culminated in the 57-year-old automaker being caught on tape accepting a coke delivery from undercover cops.

He was acquitted of all charges, but his reputation was forever tarnished. After his trial and subsequent acquittal, De Lorean quipped, "Would you buy a used car from me?"

In the end, sufficient funds were never raised to keep the company alive. The De Lorean Motor Company went bust in 1982, taking with it 2,500 jobs and over $100 million in investments.

Approximately 9,000 cars were made between January 1981 and December 1982, although actual production figures are unclear and estimates differ. The vehicle has also garnered worldwide attention and celluloid fame as the basis for the time machine in 1985 in the Back to the Future trilogy.

The PimpWiz Spin: Probably The only man in America to get caught with 24 million in drugs as well as caught on tape and acquitted on all charges. Now that's gangster. While his company tragically fell from grace he managed to get out of a very compromising position unscathed and with the huge coke bust and Back to the Future Movies will remain in infamy throughout eternity.

DeLorean, it's back to the future!

According to the LA Times :
The iconic gull-winged sports car is once again hot, and there are plans afoot to place it back in production.

Danny Botkin's love affair with the DeLorean got off to an unpromising start.

It was the early '80s and a teen-age Botkin was tagging along while his father shopped for a new car. A Ford dealer had a rear-engined, gull-winged DeLorean on display, and the flash of stainless steel automotive skin caught Danny's eye.

"I was smitten," Botkin, now 40, recalls. "I said, 'Hey Dad, let's get this.'

"He got a Bronco instead."

Botkin had to grow up and buy his dream car himself. He drives a restored DeLorean modeled after the one that served as a time machine in the 1980s blockbuster "Back to the Future."

He also manages a repair and refurbishing shop in Garden Grove that's affiliated with DeLorean Motor Co. (Texas), a suburban Houston company that rebuilds DeLoreans and is laying plans to bring the car back into limited production.

The last DeLorean rolled off the assembly line in Northern Ireland in 1982. But like Duran Duran, the Rubik's Cube and other Reagan-era icons, the car retains a following.

Of the 9,000 built in 1981 and 1982, about 6,500 are still on the road, according to James Espey, vice president of DeLorean Motor. Enthusiasts gather at clubs from Cleveland to Norway. An event next week at Universal Studios Hollywood theme park is expected to attract more than a hundred DeLoreans.

Corvette C6 Zo6 - The Supercar Killer

The new Z06 arrived as a 2006 model in the third quarter of 2005. Officially certified output is 505 hp . Its performance is similar to the Ford GT and the Dodge Viper SRT-10. Official performance figures indicate that the Z06 can reach 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds from a standing start in first gear. In the summer of 2005, GM and Corvette Racing driver Jan Magnussen brought the new Z06 to the Nürburgring in Germany. Magnussen drove the Z06 to a time of 7:42.99; few production cars have posted faster times. In their March 2007 comparison, Car and Driver selected the Corvette Z06 as the winner of their three-way comparison test of performance cars, with the Porsche 911 GT3 finishing second and the Lotus Exige S third. T

Altogether, the Z06 model not only produces more power, it revs higher than any other Chevrolet LS-motor.

In a radical departure from anything Chevrolet has ever done before, the primary structural element of the C6 Z06 is aluminum instead of steel as on the non-Z06 cars. The hydroformed aluminum frame remains dimensionally identical to its steel brethren but is significantly lighter. The front fenders are made of carbon fiber by Plasan USA to reduce weight, while wider rear fenders allow for the wider tires necessary to deal with the engine's increased power. The C6 Corvette Z06 is the first 500+ hp production car to avoid the US government Gas Guzzler tax.

With an official list price of US$70,000 per unit, it will likely be the only such vehicle in existence with a price tag under US$85,000. Proof that the car was priced aggressively, dealers in the United States have successfully marked the Z06 up to anywhere from $80,000 to $100,000, due to strong sales and low inventories [in 2006].

The Z06 ($69K) is known by enthusiasts as "The Supercar Killer", a term often used on any relatively inexpensive but very fast sportscar, due to its ability to out-pace many Italian exotics like the Ferrari F430 (Price $168K-$227K) and the Lamborghini Gallardo (Price $175K-$195K) that cost two to three times as much.

Sneak Peak at the 2009 Mercedes SL-Class

Here is a peek at the minimum specs floating around, about the new 2009 Mercedes SL-Class. The current model has bit more to live before it gets updated to the new version. The expected facelift with breathe a new life (read added sales) into the car.

The test drive took the new SL to the dusty roads of Southern Europe to the snow covered ones in Scandinavia. The most prominent change will be the CLS style headlamps that partner the new bumper and grille. The modded tail light design and LED enhancements are still kept under wraps but the air scarfs in the headrest are a lift off from the SLK series. Rumors suggest that a turbocharged version of the 350 engine with 354bhp may be added to the existing one. The top of the line SL65 AMG is with 612bhp.

Autotropolis

Autotropolis, a new search engine for the auto elite, has launched it’s new, streamlined website for finding that perfect vehicle of your dreams. Geared towards the more high- end dealers, you start by choosing the specific model of your choice and entering in your zip code. Autrotropolis will formulate a list of nearby auto retailers tailored to your needs and listed by relevance (not necessarily by closest proximity) in your area.

After choosing a dealer from the site generated list, the merchant’s informational stats will pop up, along with a Google map of the surrounding location. As well as retrieving basic information like the address and phone number, Autrotropolis also displays added info such as:

* Employee number
* Employee range
* Services
* Year opened
* Square footage
* Sales volume
* Headquarters
* Metro area and closest cities served

Following the detailed specs, is a “Detailed Reviews” page which lists user reviews of each dealer. The site also showcases a user generated voting system which allows you to give the dealer either a thumbs up or a thumbs down, which in turn creates a number scale system on which to judge which dealerships offer the best product and service in the eyes of the consumer. The more votes a dealer has, the higher the rank they get within their locale. Autotropolis also lets users write specific reviews that are posted immediately without waiting for comment moderation (and also weeds out “spam” comments by requiring a minimum text to submit).

Autotropolis provides an impressive user generated search site, mainly because it focuses in on the product at large and relies heavily on user feedback to score and rank each dealer. Overall, the site resembles an automobile inspired Citysearch.com with a Digg.com voting system and overall easy to use site navigation. So, whether you’re in the market for a new Lexus or you just want to scout out local wheels, Autotropolis is the one stop information portal for those of us who deserve the best, but don’t have the time to do the research.

The PimpWiz.com Bottom Line: This has been a paid review. Yes, we are "hoeing" out our article space for money. We can not promise positive reviews but we will look at it if you pay us enough ;-)
