JackColton.com - Las Vegas Nightlife Direct

Born in Las Vegas during the summer of 1982, Jack Colton grew up within a family that seemingly had at least some sort of a connection with every major “mover and shaker” within the Las Vegas Valley of the time। His Father worked along side the likes of Steve Wynn, Bruce Woodbury, Don Ashcroft, and Ralph Lamb. His Mother had a little black book that included many of the real-life notorious Vegas names that the blockbuster movie “Casino” starring Robert Deniro were based upon (Frank Rosenthal, Tony Spilatro, Frank Ellis, and the Stewart family – who, as a matter of fact, are Colton and his sister’s God Parents).

In 1990, Colton’s family moved from all of the bright lights and decadent action that Las Vegas provided them, and settled into a town with a bustling population of 3,000 – Muldrow, Oklahoma। After five (5) years of living amongst an entirely different “country” lifestyle, Colton’s family moved to college-town Norman, Oklahoma where they remain to this day.

In March of 2003, Colton closed shop in Oklahoma and returned to Las Vegas for greater entrepreneurial challenges and to completely immerse himself into the entertainment side of the ‘Entertainment Capital of the World.’ Not wanting to capitalize on his family name (which very few people actually know) or his parent’s vast connections throughout the Las Vegas Valley, he took a position as a Street Promoter passing out flyers for Seven Nightclub. Three months later Colton was the Director of Venue Marketing for the club, and later the Marketing Director for both Seven and Men, The Show.

Resigning Seven in late 2004, Colton wanted to get back into the swing of business again, but ended up starting a complete 2 year immersion into the Las Vegas nightlife scene. Almost every night of the week, he and his friends would be patrons of some of the most sought after nightclubs on the planet, and Colton was taking a lot of notes for the project that would be his first return to the business world in three (3) years – nightlife publication JackColton.com.

Immediately following the June 2006 launch of JackColton.com, “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” creator Robin Leach invited Jack Colton to join the likes of Lance Burton, Wolfgang Puck, and George Maloof in writing a guest column on his popular AOL editorial “The Luxe Life” about how to be a ‘true VIP’ in Las Vegas. Features in The LA Times, The NY Times, on the main page of AOL.com, Strip LV Magazine, Kiss Magazine, and in UrbanMonarch.com soon followed. Not surprisingly, JackColton.com was almost immediately considered one of the most popular 500,000 websites in the world by internet rating provider Alexa.com (currently number 240,070 to be exact). In January of 2007, Colton was honored as one of the top "30 under 30" by Light Nightclub and 944 Magazine - a celebration of the top 30 movers and shakers in the Las Vegas Valler under the age of 30.

Colton is currently continuing work on the popular JackColton।com project, is a contributing writer to the Las Vegas Weekly, Strip Magazine, and enjoys many co-promotions with area media outlets।

Couture breaks bone in title win

According to the LA Times:
Randy Couture, the Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion who successfully defended his belt Saturday, suffered a broken bone in his left arm during the fight, his personal assistant confirmed today.

Couture, 44, who defeated contender Gabriel Gonzaga by technical knockout in the third round, broke an ulna bone in his left forearm during the third round, said his assistant Valerie Haney.

"It happened on [Gonzaga's] high leg kick at Randy's head," Haney said. "Randy blocked the kick with his left arm."

Couture, a five-time UFC champion in two weight classes, will have a splint on the arm for six weeks, a period that will extend into his plans to appear in a film being shot in South Africa.

The broken bone was discovered Sunday, Haney said. Couture was visiting a chiropractor in Las Vegas when he reported the arm was "sore, tender, swollen," Haney said. An X-ray confirmed the break.

iBought: Useless Chitika Facebook Application

When I checked my email this morning, I noticed that Chitika, the blogger-driven merchandising/shopping network, made a Facebook application called iBought. The application allows Facebook users to show off their latest purchases in their profiles.

How useful is iBought? If you checkout my Facebook profile, it says I just bought a goat. No, I didn't really buy a goat. But I wanted to see what ads Chitika would list based on the word goat. Care to guess? I now have 3 bottles of Horny Goat Weed on my Facebook profile. But let's say I bought something good like a giant HD-TV. Why would I list it on my Facebook profile? That's like inviting someone to rob you. Needless to say, I'm pretty sure the iBought application will be deleted by the end of the week.

Besides being useless, Chitika needs to fine tune the application coding. I got this error after trying to interact with the iBought application in my Facebook profile:

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /var/www/html/facebook/lib/facebookapi_php5_restlib.php:1) in /var/www/html/facebook/lib/facebook.php on line 197

So why would anyone want to install the useless iBought application on their Facebook profile? Chitika is paying $1 per for every friend you get to install iBought. The offer is only open to the first 10,000 installs.

$1 isn’t a lot, but if you have a ton of Facebook friends it could be a worthwhile. Then again, you'll probably make all your friends hate you. Still interested? You can install the iBought Facebook application here.

Download YouTube Videos for Your iPhone and iPod

UPDATE: YouTube has reworked their site in response to this article. If you get an error when trying to download a YouTube video, please try some of the plug-ins and scripts listed in step #3.

YouTube.com is a great resource. Not many sites allows users to freely upload, view, and share video clips like YouTube does. YouTube even lets users easily post videos on their blogs and personal web sites. But because anyone can upload a video clip on YouTube, copyright violations are rampant.

In an effort to prevent the widespread distribution of illegal copied video files, YouTube encodes its video files in the Macromedia Flash format, which prevents viewers from downloading files and making digital copies.

Here's a step-by-step MethodShop.com tutorial on how to rip video files off YouTube and convert them for an iPod Video, Apple TV, iTunes or iPhone. This trick will work on Mac or PC using Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer.

Pentagon Paid $998,798 to Ship Two 19-Cent Washers

According To Bloomberg.com:
A small South Carolina parts supplier collected about $20.5 million over six years from the Pentagon for fraudulent shipping costs, including $998,798 for sending two 19-cent washers to an Army base in Texas, U.S. officials said.

The company also billed and was paid $455,009 to ship three machine screws costing $1.31 each to Marines in Habbaniyah, Iraq, and $293,451 to ship an 89-cent split washer to Patrick Air Force Base in Cape Canaveral, Florida, Pentagon records show.

The owners of C&D Distributors in Lexington, South Carolina -- twin sisters -- exploited a flaw in an automated Defense Department purchasing system: bills for shipping to combat areas or U.S. bases that were labeled ``priority'' were usually paid automatically, said Cynthia Stroot, a Pentagon investigator.

Internet Video Contest Gives American Idol Hopeful an Edge

Can an Asian-American ever hold the American Idol title? Paul Ethan Hahn says a resounding "yes" and Internet video might be his Ace in the Hole.

Paul grew up in Murray Hill, New Jersey and has always been a big country fan. He also loves the hit FOX-TV program American Idol. And if Paul has his way, he’ll be the first Asian country singer on American Idol.
"I wanna make Paula Abdul cry and show that jerk off Simon how to sing. I want to be the next American Idol!" Paul quips.
This week, Paul Hahn entered an online FOX 29 Philly Idol contest and hopes that a hi-tech edge will help him bypass the massive lines outside the first round of judges.

FOX 29 posted an open American Idol audition on their website. The winner gets to perform live on Fox's morning show, Good Day Philadelphia, and gets to bypass the first round of judges at the open American Idol Philadelphia auditions later this month. To enter, all you had to do was upload a video of you singing.

Paul recorded his American Idol demo using his Apple MacBook Pro laptop, with a built in iSight camera, and the video editing program iMovie.
"It was so easy," says Paul. "I just opened iMovie, recorded about a minute sample of my singing, burned a DVD and threw it into the mail. The whole process only took about 10 minutes."
Since Idol's first season, we've seen Kelly Clarkson belt out high notes, a plethora of Sanjaya hairstyles, and even a contestant who went on to win an Oscar. But we haven’t seen any serious Asian-American contestants get a real shot at the Idol crown (sorry but William Hung doesn't count).

Will Paul's dream of telling off Simon and getting to sing a country song on American Idol come true? Can Internet video voting give this American Idol hopeful a back door to stardom? That's in the hands of you, the voters.

You can watch and vote for all the top 10 Philadelphia contestants, including Paul Hahn, on FOX 29’s web site: http://media.myfoxphilly.com/idol/idolvote.html. The top 5 get to perform live on FOX 29's morning show Good Day Philadelphia and the winner gets to bypass the massive lines at the Philadelphia open auditions for season 7.

JK Rowling Interview on iTunes

Even if you’re not a Harry Potter fan, you have to admire J.K Rowling. Not just as a writer with a world-class pimpin' imagination, but also as a businesswoman and entrepreneur. She seemed to come out of nowhere to create one of the biggest entertainment franchises ever.

It’s hard to believe that she used to be unemployed, surviving on U.K. state benefits. That was 1995. Now it's 12 years (and hundreds of millions of dollars) later, and she’s just finished her seventh and final Harry Potter novel, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.”
iTunes Link: J.K. Rowling Interview
Rowling recently did an interview with Meredith Viera for the American news programs The Today Show and Dateline NBC. I only caught part of her Dateline NBC interview, so I was pretty happy to see that they posted the whole thing on iTunes. The interview is an interesting glimpse inside the world of Harry Potter, and it offers some real insight into the woman who created a billion dollar pimpin' world of magic.

DeLorean, it's back to the future!

According to the LA Times :
The iconic gull-winged sports car is once again hot, and there are plans afoot to place it back in production.

Danny Botkin's love affair with the DeLorean got off to an unpromising start.

It was the early '80s and a teen-age Botkin was tagging along while his father shopped for a new car. A Ford dealer had a rear-engined, gull-winged DeLorean on display, and the flash of stainless steel automotive skin caught Danny's eye.

"I was smitten," Botkin, now 40, recalls. "I said, 'Hey Dad, let's get this.'

"He got a Bronco instead."

Botkin had to grow up and buy his dream car himself. He drives a restored DeLorean modeled after the one that served as a time machine in the 1980s blockbuster "Back to the Future."

He also manages a repair and refurbishing shop in Garden Grove that's affiliated with DeLorean Motor Co. (Texas), a suburban Houston company that rebuilds DeLoreans and is laying plans to bring the car back into limited production.

The last DeLorean rolled off the assembly line in Northern Ireland in 1982. But like Duran Duran, the Rubik's Cube and other Reagan-era icons, the car retains a following.

Of the 9,000 built in 1981 and 1982, about 6,500 are still on the road, according to James Espey, vice president of DeLorean Motor. Enthusiasts gather at clubs from Cleveland to Norway. An event next week at Universal Studios Hollywood theme park is expected to attract more than a hundred DeLoreans.

MF-575 Digital Picture Frame Review

Why give someone a single still framed picture when you can give them an entire slide show? The MF-575 is an inexpensive hi-tech digital photo, MP3, and video player with a bright, high-resolution 5.6-inch color TFT screen.

When I bought my first MF-575 picture frame, I got it as a gift for a family member who liked to complain that I never send them pictures anymore. The problem is, I have a digital camera and haven't gotten any pictures developed in several years. So now, whenever I go over to their house for a visit, I just bring an extra memory card from my digital camera full of new pictures. If you don't have an extra memory card, the MF-575 has an easy-to-use MD/SD/MMC memory card reader that plugs into any computer with a USB port. So you can just plug the entire picture frame into your computer and copy the pictures onto the card that way if necessary.

This year on Christmas morning, I was thinking about taking a series of pictures while everyone is opening their gifts. Then I'll take the memory card out of my digital camera and pop it into the MF-575 picture frame for an instant slide show for everyone to enjoy on Christmas afternoon. Good idea right? The number of images you can put into your MF-575 slide show is only limited by the capacity of the memory card being used.

Here's the full review: MF-575 Digital Picture Frame

Watches Made from Titanic’s Hull

A watch worth $152,435 must be made from something unique. A Swiss jeweler is now offering watches, which have been made from the hull of the doomed Titanic. The metal has been mixed with contemporary shipbuilding steel to make the casing of the timepieces. The black dials have been made by mixing the recovered coal burned in the Titanic’s furnaces with ceramics. The watches dubbed Titanic-DNA will be made in a limited run of 2,012 as a reference to the 100th anniversary of the disaster in five years’ time. So, £75K tag is too high. Don’t worry as the Titanic watches range in price from £4,500 to £75,000 depending on the material used, such as steel, silver or gold with diamonds.

American Airlines prepares for on-board Internet

American Airlines is going to become the first U.S. carrier to offer broadband Internet access to customers on its planes.

The service is expected to begin early in 2008 and (at this point) mainly on coast to coast flights. We would have thought Jetblue would have been the first but congrads to American Airlines for having the b*lls to be the first.

AirCell, a provider of aviation communications systems, said Wednesday that it will team up with American to test its new system for providing on-board Internet access -- AirCell's first partner on the project. AirCell says its system, which is based on cellular technology, is less bulky and much cheaper than Boeing's old satellite-based service.AirCell Chief Executive Jack Blumenstein told Reuters that the equipment costs about $100,000 per plane and that airlines can offer the service for about $10 per flight.

We think people would easily paid $3.95 an hour or $9.95 unlimited internet service.

50-Cent’s Murcielago on EBay

According to Born Rich:
Owning a celebrity owned roadster has become more of a style statement. The Lamborghini Murcielago pictured above was once 50-Cent’s property but now, the car has been up for sale on eBay. Unfortunately, its 20″ wheels don’t even qualify as dubs any more. The 2005 model has gone only 1414 miles and yes, it’s just chrome paint, not the real chrome.

Now, what are you waiting for? The current bid is placed at US $225,300. If you are an ardent 50-Cent’s fan, it’s time to check your bank balance.

Frank Sinatra - Strangers on My Flight

Originally aired on the King of "I don't give a F**k" aka The Howard Stern Show।

We know this is very racy and may offend some people but come on its funny. We know if Frank was still around we wouldn't have any problems with these terrorists thats for sure ;-)

You have to listen to this:

Frank Sinarta, "Stranger on My Flight"

Strangers on my flight,
turbans they're packin'.
Wonderin' if they might,
plan a hijacking.
They could pull a stunt,
before this flight is through.

Something's on their minds.
I saw them mutter.
What that in their hands?
Looks like box cutters,
I'm gonna kick some ass,
if they make a move.

Strangers on my flight.
Two smelly people,
and they're not talking right;
and in a moment,
I will grab base ball bat;
and that will be that.
Swing like Joe DiMaggio,
and rip them both a new a-hole.

And if they pick a fight,
and try to screw us,
I'll punch out their lights,
just like Joe Louis.
It would feel so right,
for strangers on my flight.

Ratta Tat Tat Tat,
Budda Bing Bang Boom,
Zooma Zooma Zoom.

Thanks to Tom Ross for the tip on this bit.
