US Weekend Gross: $71,850,000

According to the La Times:
Twentieth Century Fox's big-screen adaptation of the long-running animated TV sitcom grossed an estimated $71.9 million in its first weekend in the U.S. and Canada. The surprisingly strong haul showed the versatility and durability of a pop-culture franchise that has poked fun at Middle America for two decades.

The opening blew past industry expectations of $45 million. The movie, from a creative team including writer-producers Matt Groening and James L. Brooks, also opened strong abroad, hauling in $168 million worldwide from 73 countries including the U.S.

"I had been saying this is America's No. 1 comedy family, but forget the 'America' part — this is the Earth's No. 1 comedy family," Chris Aronson, senior vice president for distribution at Fox, said Sunday.

Group Danhos has commissioned the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) to design Torre Bicentenario in the centre of Mexico City which will become the tallest building in Latin America. Completion is scheduled for 2010 to coincide with the 200th anniversary of Mexico’s Independence.The building will accommodate over 160,000 sqft of office space, a convention centre, site museum, gym, as well as retail and restaurants.

To put this building's height into context, even though it'll be the tallest building in Latin America, it's dwarfed by the tallest building in the U.S., the Sears Tower at 1450 feet, which is itself dwarfed by the Burj Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, to be completed next year, and whose height will be over 2000 feet (its exact height is still a secret)

45minutes while I sit at the bar wondering if you're taking so long
because you ate too much bran that morning isn't as much a "Stupid
thing" as it is grounds for permanent removal from my social calendar.

To be honest, I'm not sure if it was more amusing that you went and
degraded yourself in a public toilet not once but twice in a 2 hour
span, or that you seemed to think that by saying "Well, I didn't F**k
him" somehow gave you a clean slate. So forgive me if I couldn't care
less if the world "looked funny" to you yesterday. Since your world
revolves around blow dryers, golden retrievers, Prada Bags and Jelly
Beans, I'm sure it must have been most unsettling to actually have to
consider someone else's feelings for 24 hours straight. The good news
for you is that my friends don't think you're a terrible person, they
just think you're the average run of the mill cum-guzzling blond who
commands about as much respect as your average child porn collector.

By the way, for the amount of time you claim to spend in spin class
you really must be doing something wrong to sport the thunder thighs

According to Gizmodo.com:
Moller International, creators of that stunning red flyingcar prototype seen web-wide, has started production on the M200G, the consumer-ready derivative of the M200X volantor, and is readying the machine for the open market. Depending on engine costs, the M200G will cost between $90,000-$125,000.

According to the press release, the machine can hover 10 feet off the ground and cruises at a speed of 50 mph. Because the M200G is classified as a recreation device and not an aircraft, it is not subject to FAA regulations and anybody can operate one. No official release date has been announced.

Coca-Cola's $4 billion purchase of Glaceau's Vitamin Water has been a minor talking point in a rather stagnant hip-hop world for the past few days, with a sticking point coming in the form of exactly how much was personally pocketed in the deal by rapper and Vitamin Water spokesman Curtis (50 Cent) Jackson. Estimates have ranged anywhere up to $400 million dollars in net profit for the rapper.

He's not the first celebrity to make a fortune as an early investor in a company. Adult contemporary star Kenny G was one the original ten Starbucks investors.

Meanwhile, executives at Interscope, the record label that 50 Cent is contracted to, are said to be highly disappointed at the lack of public interest in his latest singles "Straight To The Bank" and "Amusement Park". This is rumored to be a contributing factor in his latest LP entitled Curtis being delayed until September. 50 himself is said to be frustrated at the turn of events and is looking to salvage the situation. Reps for Interscope could not be reached.

The new Z06 arrived as a 2006 model in the third quarter of 2005. Officially certified output is 505 hp . Its performance is similar to the Ford GT and the Dodge Viper SRT-10. Official performance figures indicate that the Z06 can reach 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds from a standing start in first gear. In the summer of 2005, GM and Corvette Racing driver Jan Magnussen brought the new Z06 to the Nürburgring in Germany. Magnussen drove the Z06 to a time of 7:42.99; few production cars have posted faster times. In their March 2007 comparison, Car and Driver selected the Corvette Z06 as the winner of their three-way comparison test of performance cars, with the Porsche 911 GT3 finishing second and the Lotus Exige S third. Altogether, the Z06 model not only produces more power, it revs higher than any other Chevrolet LS-motor.

In a radical departure from anything Chevrolet has ever done before, the primary structural element of the C6 Z06 is aluminum instead of steel as on the non-Z06 cars. The hydroformed aluminum frame remains dimensionally identical to its steel brethren but is significantly lighter. The front fenders are made of carbon fiber by Plasan USA to reduce weight, while wider rear fenders allow for the wider tires necessary to deal with the engine's increased power. The C6 Corvette Z06 is the first 500+ hp production car to avoid the US government Gas Guzzler tax.

With an official list price of US$70,000 per unit, it will likely be the only such vehicle in existence with a price tag under US$85,000. Proof that the car was priced aggressively, dealers in the United States have successfully marked the Z06 up to anywhere from $80,000 to $100,000, due to strong sales and low inventories [in 2006].

The Z06 ($69K) is known by enthusiasts as "The Supercar Killer", a term often used on any relatively inexpensive but very fast sportscar, due to its ability to out-pace many Italian exotics like the Ferrari F430 (Price $168K-$227K) and the Lamborghini Gallardo (Price $175K-$195K) that cost two to three times as much.

The iPhone may be Apple's first "official" phone, but apparently they toyed with the idea 25 years ago. Way back in 1983, designer Hartmut Esslinger, the same guy who made the Apple IIc computer, came up with this phone/tablet prototype.

Unfortunately Silverchair has postponed 4 California shows on their current U.S. Tour to allow singer, Daniel Johns to recover fully from a case of laryngitis. Daniel caught the viral throat infection earlier this week after flying from Sydney/Los Angeles/Toronto/New York/Los Angeles in just four days. As you might have heard, the laryngitis severely impeded Daniel's vocal performance on the "Tonight Show With Jay Leno" last Tuesday. If you haven't seen the video yet, here's a clip of the Leno performance I found on YouTube. It's tough to watch, especially if you've ever had laryngitis before. Daniel basically had to scream through the most of the song. When the camera zooms in on Daniel's face you can clearly see he looks like he's in pain.



While his Doctor had initially been hopeful that Daniel's laryngitis would clear up "in a day or two", he has since advised that the Silverchair frontman should "avoid singing for 4 to 6 days" in order to be guaranteed of making a full recovery. The Doctor also advised that singing during this time could risk permanent damage to Daniel's voice so the band has no choice but to reschedule the 4 California shows and to apologize to the fans who will be inconvenienced by this change.

Dates for the rest of Silverchair's Young Modern World Tour are not expected to be affected in any way by this temporary throat infection.

MethodShop.com recently did an interview with Silverchair. They were very excited about this new album and really looking forward to touring the U.S. again. I hope Daniel's laryngitis doesn't derail the tour too badly. They've had everything from an eating disorder to reactive arthritis screw up their previous tours.

Silverchair's new album, Young Modern, comes out July 24th.

Q: You produced and star in MEDELLIN, you put your own money into the film — and it's not exactly a low-budget indie. You really put everything on the line. Why risk so much for a story about a ruthless killer?

Vince: Well, when you put it that way... what was I thinking?! Seriously, from the moment I first read this script, I knew it was a part I had to play. And believe me, we tried to get someone else to foot the bill. But when it became clear that wasn't gonna happen, well, sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do, you know? And while it may not be QUEENS BOULEVARD, in the scheme of Hollywood movies, it's still a low budget independent film.

Q: Why Pablo Escobar?

Vince: Why not? When you think about it, it's a Horatio Alger story. He pulled himself up from a life of poverty to become one of the richest men in the world. In the eighties, Forbes named him, like, the 3rd richest man in the world. I mean, sure, you can be Bill Gates and invent a computer program and become a billionaire, but if you're born in a poor country to a teacher and farmer, well you have to play the cards you're dealt. And I can relate to that, being a kid from Queens, you know? Yes, he had to kill to get there. "Plato o Plamo," that was his motto. "Money or lead." You gotta love that.

Q: The man was responsible for so many deaths — not just the people he personally killed, but if you count all of the drug-related deaths he supplied the cocaine for.... Don't you worry about glamorizing someone like that?

Vince: First, I don't think we glamorize it. Billy Walsh isn't a Hollywood director, that's why I knew he was the man for the job. He wasn't going to make this look sanitized and fun. You can smell Billy's movies. And that's what drew me to the part. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the guy was a hero or anything. But I think we need to understand how people like Pablo think, how they are able to capture the love and loyalty of a group of people, while being reviled by others. If we don't get inside the psychology of guys like Escobar, and show how they work, we run the risk of it happening again.


Q: So you see MEDELLIN as a morality piece?

Vince: [laughs] No. Not at all. I'm just talking as an actor now, not the producer. You can't judge your character, you know? Pablo Escobar didn't wake up every day and think "I'm a ruthless bastard with no morals, no values." He had values. He built churches, he gave to the poor, he had his causes. In his mind the ends justified the means. I'm not saying that to the rest of the world it wasn't twisted, but in his mind, it was probably noble. That's all we're trying to get across.

Q: You shot the film in Spanish. But you don't even speak Spanish. Wasn't Benicio Del Toro originally supposed to play Escobar?

Vince: It was Billy's idea to shoot it in Spanish and I thought it was genius. To really tell the authentic Pablo Escobar story it had to be in Spanish. I had a great dialect coach on set. Hopefully my accent doesn't offend Benicio.

Q: How did you prepare for the role?

Vince: I ate my brother's spaghetti carbonara every night. Seriously, I had to put on the weight, there was the Spanish, but mostly I just read everything I could about Escobar and tried to get into his head. How do you kick around a soccer ball with a kid one minute and blow away his you kick around a soccer ball with a kid one minute and blow away his father the next? What's the psychology there? "Plato o Plamo." It's pretty simple actually. Escobar lived by a simple ideology.

Q: Critics are buzzing. Is this your Oscar?

Vince: I don't think that way. It was all what the role required. What Billy wanted. And what I wanted. Me in a fat suit just wasn't gonna cut it.

When someone mentions the band Silverchair, your first thought or memory will vary depending on where you're from. People in the U.S. and Europe may only remember Silverchair as a few kids who skyrocketed to stardom in 1994 after their first album, Frogstomp. Thanks to such hit songs as "Tomorrow" and "Israel's Son," the Australian trio, consisting of singer/guitarist/songwriter Daniel Johns, drummer Ben Gillies and bass player Chris Joannou, became international superstars when they were only fifteen years old.

Since 1994, the last decade has been a mix of trying tests and triumphs for Silverchair. Battles with extreme fame at an early age, an eating disorder, and a case of reactive arthritis kept the band mostly grounded in their home continent Australia. But despite these setbacks, Silverchair managed to pass the time by repeatedly making hit records and racking up more #1 albums than any other Aussie band including AC/DC, Midnight Oil and INXS.


Silverchair's latest album, Young Modern, is their first new record in 6 years, and the tour supporting it will be their first U.S. tour in over a decade. For the first time in its history, Vulcain offers a glimpse into the intimate secrets of a unique movement, its legendary Cricket calibre.

Vulcain discloses something of its historical mystery by presenting the Vulcain Golden Heart, an open worked watch revealing a finely engraved movement. Exquisitely crafted, the legendary Cricket calibre is distinguished by its meticulous finishing including bridges decorated with Cotes de Geneva, circular-grained or polished plates, and blued screws. The surfaces of the twin barrels – one for the movement and the other for the striking mechanism – are adorned with a fine snailed motif to enhance the beauty of the horological vision they provide.

It is available in a choice of charcoal grey or blue dials, with blued dauphine hour and minute hands and alarm pointer.

Liz Hernandez, the voice of Power 106 FM, is reportedly dating the one and only Kevin Federline according to the National Enquirer. Someone please tell us how this guy does it...oh wait he has a huge monthly allowance from Crazy Spears.

“Kevin is definitely thrilled with Liz,” a source told the tab. “He talks about her all the time — how smart she is, how she’s marketed herself so well, and how beautiful she is. He’s serious about her.”

The pair met 18 months ago when K-Fed went on her show. The visit was made famous when Liz asked him who was better in bed, Britney Spears or Shar Jackson. Spears was said to be furious when he didn’t say her name immediately.

“Liz is trying to keep [the romance] quiet because she doesn’t want it to get around work, but Kevin can’t help but brag about his conquest to his friends and family,” the source said.

PimpWiz Spin: This sounds like a total pubilicity stunt for Liz Hernandez. Basically, sources tell us that K-Fed thinks she has a nice ass and was psyched when he realized she was willingly to bang him for exposure. Props to Liz Hernandez for pulling on a K-fed on K-Fed.

Apple's iPhone has enjoyed favorable reviews since its recent debut, but it got some criticism on Capitol Hill in Washington this week.

The phones, which cost between $500 and $600—are usable only on AT&T Inc.'s wireless network and will remain that way until 2012. Even though the phones become expensive paperweights if customers quit AT&T's wireless plan, the company will still charge a $175 early termination fee, said Rep. Edward J. Markey, D-Mass., chairman of a House subcommittee on telecommunications and the Internet.

Markey described the phone as a "Hotel California service. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave—you're stuck with your iPhone and you can't take it anywhere."


Timothy Wu, a law professor at Columbia University and commentator on technology issues, described the cell phone industry as "spectrum- based oligopoly" where customers have given up their property rights.

"Imagine buying a television that stopped working if you decided to switch to satellite," Wu said. "Or a toaster that died if you switched from Potomac Power to ConEd."

Miss New Jersey revealed some of those supposedly salacious blackmail photos this morning. Actually the photos, as must of us suspected, are a huge letdown. Mostly Miss New Jersey Amy Polumbo partying with her friends.

Amy Polumbo showed the country some of the most "revealing" pics on the "Today" show, and while one shows her boyfriend chomping on her (clothed) breast and another finds her (fully clothed) legs spread wide in a limo, the rest of them (that were released) were decidedly PG. She decided to make the pics public in advance of a meeting today with New Jersey pageant officials, who will determine the fate of her crown.

The most striking trend among the photos: Amy's fixation with her own breasts. In one photo, her boyfriend is biting her left breast. ("He's being silly and immature but he's also very intelligent," she says.) In another photo her best friend from drama club grabs her breast (same breast). She must like breasts as much as we do ;-)
