Invented over 200 years ago, the tourbillon movement is still considered the pinnacle of watchmaking. This year OMEGA rises to the challenge and takes this jewel of haute horlogerie into the 21st century by introducing the Co-Axial escapement into the movement. Furthermore, this De Ville chronometer places the tourbillon in the centre of the movement and as is fitting of such an achievement, the tourbillon and its Co-Axial escapement are visible through the dial. The materials and aesthetics match the daring of this mechanical innovation: the tourbillon cage is made of titanium and the bridges and plates are finished in a striking chocolate brown colour. The movement is housed in a 38.7 mm 18-carat red gold case with matching red gold hands, screws and wheels.

Invented by the Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1801, the perpetual rotation of the tourbillon cage was designed to compensate the effect of gravity on the escapement and thus make the watch more precise. Still valued for their mechanical mastery, to this day tourbillon watches are assembled by hand and only a few pieces can be produced each year by highly qualified master watchmakers. OMEGA has been producing tourbillons since 1947 and is proud to create the Central Tourbillon, testimony to the company’s knowledge and craftsmanship. Its intricate construction and reduced size make this mechanism a rarity much sought after by serious collectors of horological masterpieces.

The unusual and intriguing dial of this unique watch is a work of art in its own right and adds a modern twist to the beauty of the tourbillon, which is visible in its entirety through the sapphire glass with an anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The sapphire glass dial reveals the exceptional level of thought and detail that has gone into this timepiece. The colour of the hands and screws matches the 18-carat red gold of the seconds track and hour markers; however, adding a contemporary look, the plate and bridges are an unusual rich brown colour. This is achieved using a treatment of PVD-physical vapour deposition. Sun brushing the metal creates additional texture and adds depth to the bridges.

The tourbillon takes pride of place in full view at the centre of the watch and makes one revolution every minute. The seconds hand is mounted on the tourbillon cage and matching the red gold motif of this watch, an Alpha-shaped red gold insert is set into the tip of the hand. This seconds hand sweeps over the small etched dots that make up the red gold seconds track. With the tourbillon mechanism in full view at the centre of the watch, a unique system is used to display the time. Gold Alpha-style hour and minute hands are etched on to two separate sapphire discs with an anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The two discs rotate around the centre axis to display the time. Facetted and diamond polished solid gold indexes are applied at 12, 3 and 6 o’clock.

No matter the Latin diva appeared on American Idol hoping to get rid of her diva icon by dropping the J.Lo, but the big $2 million pay off for a 40 minute private concert speaks the story of her diva-like means of earning big bucks. Andrei reportedly paid $1.2 million for the elite performance and a further $800,000 to fly Jennifer’s staff from the US to Britain.

The high profile birthday party took place last Saturday night on April 21st and had sixty guests in all, including Russian and Serbian tycoons. Lopez did on superhits like “Jenny From the Block”. Do you remember that Andrei paid Christina Aguilera, a whopping 4 million dollars to sing at his 2005 wedding in the south of France? Anyway, this would definitely help Jennifer’s man Marc Anthony with his tax troubles, hopefully.

But whatever the explanation, weird, awkward interviews seem to be occurring at an ever more frequent rate. The website Double Viking has gathered the top 10 most awkward interview moments of all time.

The list includes such gems as Barbra Walters asking Katherine Hepburn what kind of tree she'd be and Tom Cruise attacking Matt Lauer about Scientology. But by far, my favorite moment is when Vanilla Ice grabs a baseball bat, destroys part of a TV set and makes Jon Stewart crap his pants.

Recently Bob Garfield, from AdAge, got to interview Bill Gates during the Corbis Creativity 2.0 panel in Manhattan. Garfield asked Gates about a number of topics from Vista to IPTV. He also tried to get Gates to comment on a very sensitive topic... Apple's "Get a Mac" advertising campaign. The campaign features actor/author John Hodgman who looks like Bill Gates and personifies a PC.



As you can imagine, Bill Gates is not amused by the ads. Here's the portion of the interview transcript where Garfield asks Gates about the ads. Enjoy:

GARFIELD: I want to ask you one more thing: Those Mac ads -- how do you feel about the John Hodgman character?

GATES: I can't comment on someone else's ad.

Last week Apple sent out an email (screenshot courtesy of TechCrunch.com) to video podcasters asking them to increase the quality of their productions and start formatting their videos for the big screen. Since the launch of the Apple TV (full review here) in March, Apple TVs have been selling like hotcakes and video podcast subscription numbers have skyrocketed.

Apple TV owners, who don't necessarily want to spend lots of money in the iTunes Store, are gobbling up video podcasts like never before. Even though there currently isn't any HD quality videos for sale in the iTunes Store, the Apple TV is capable of HD video playback. So several popular video podcasters, including The Washington Post, TWIT (MacBreak), Revision3 (Diggnation) and Vintage Tooncast, have decided to fill the void of HD content by distributing their podcasts in HD or hi res quality.

Why hasn't everyone started distributing their video podcasts in HD? Money. Not only does producing an HD podcasts require extra hard drive space (roughly 4 times more), special cameras and editing software, but just hosting these giant video files on the Internet can be enough to bankrupt your entire production. For example, the iPod Video version of MacBreak episode 63 is 21 MBs. The HD version is 93 MBs. To help alleviate increased HD production costs, many podcasters have reached out to HD television manufacturers like Samsung and Panasonic to get them to sponsor their new HD podcasts.



For video podcasters who are still producing content at 320x240 but want to do something to increase quality, there is an intermediary step before going HD. Podcasters can start by migrating their productions to 640x480, or even 640x360 (letterbox). This way their video files will still be compatible with portable media players like the Zune and iPod, but will also work on the Apple TV. If the material is carefully encoded, it will look as good or better than typical TV.

For the first time, a watch combines a Tourbillon and a slot machine equipped with a striking mechanism in perfect proportion with the Vintage 1945 case.

The handle on the side of the case is connected to a rack. By pulling the handle, the rack slides up. When the rack reaches its highest point, and only then (a so called “all or nothing mechanism”), it starts the reels spinning and slowly slides back down. When it has returned approximately two thirds of the way, it activates stoppers, which stop the reels one by one and synchronically activates the striking mechanism.

Lonelygirl15, the teenage video diary that became a huge hit on YouTube but turned out to be a fiction, is destined for a UK spin-off after its creators tied up with social networking website Bebo.

Lonelygirl15 Presents... KateModern will debut in July with several weekly episodes available exclusively to Bebo users in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

The original series of webcam diary entries from teenage girl Bree generated some 50 million views via YouTube and other user-generated video sites like Revver.com.

The popularity of the property remained undented when it came to light that Bree was in fact a character being played by an actress. In fact, the controversy actually helped increase the buzz around Lonelygirl15 and even influenced a line of t-shirts. Now its creators, Miles Beckett, Greg Goodfried and Mesh Flinders, are turning their attentions to the UK.


KateModern will expand on the original Lonelygirl storyline, focusing on a university student in London and her "struggle to balance her complex social life with the dark forces that shadow her."

As with Lonelygirl15, KateModern promises to incorporate puzzles and mysteries into the plot, which will carry over into 'real life,' allowing viewers to participate in the storyline through the integrated alternate reality game.

Google is using its popular online mapping service to draw attention to atrocities in the Darfur region of Sudan. In a joint effort with the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Google has updated its Google Earth application (free download here) with high resolution satellite images and special icons to draw attention to destroyed villages, displaced people and refugee camps.

Google Earth allows users to focus on satellite images and maps of most of the world.

When users scan over the Darfur region, where the United Nations estimates that more than 200,000 people have been killed and 2.5 million displaced in four years of carnage, Google Inc hopes to attract their gaze with icons. The icons represent destroyed villages with flames and refugee camps with tents. When users zoom in to a level of magnification that keeps most of Darfur on a computer screen, much of the region appears to be on fire.

Kruger was born in Algermissen, near Hildesheim, Germany, and she started her career as a dancer in London when she was still young, but after an injury she changed her mind and went to Paris to become a model. She won Elite's 1992 "Look of the Year" at the age of 15. Kruger soon became interested in acting and took lessons at the Cours Florent. She landed some small appearances in several French movies. She then changed her last name for use with English-speaking audiences, to ease her move to a Hollywood career.

Her most notable role to date is her portrayal of Helen in Wolfgang Petersen's epic Troy.


She was ranked #50 on the Maxim Hot 100 Women of 2005.[1] In 2004, she starred with Nicholas Cage and Sean Bean (who co-starred with her in Troy) in the popular film National Treasure, going on to appear in movies such as Joyeux Noël (2005) and Copying Beethoven (2006). She will return for National Treasure: The Book of Secrets, playing the role of Abigail Chase. The movie will be released in December 2007. Kruger married French actor Guillaume Canet on September 1, 2001. They have since filed for divorce. She subsequently dated Canadian actor Joshua Jackson, but their relationship ended in March 2007.

Here's a 7 minute YouTube montage of the worst acting ever printed on film. David Caruso is ridiculous. 9 out of 10 times he'll put on his dorky sunglasses right before he says one of his lame one liners on the US crime drama C.S.I. Miami. How sad is it when your character's dry charm and self-confident appeal are a direct result of a pair of sunglasses.

Seriously, when did talking slow and putting on sunglasses become "acting."



David Caruso's bad acting and dorky 'Sunglasses of Justice' would probably make for a good drinking game. The only problem is, his acting is so bad that he makes C.S.I. Miami unwatchable.

DUBLIN, Calif. (AP) - KITT, the flame-throwing, river-jumping, talking muscle car from the `80s TV show "Knight Rider," is up for sale. Restored to its debut- season glory, the modified black 1982 Pontiac Trans Am is offered at $149,995 at a Dublin auto dealership. Johnny "Vette" Verhoek of Kassabian Motors has had the car, officially called Knight Industries Two Thousand, on display for about a month.

Although it cannot achieve the 300 mph speeds that KITT reached, soar 50 feet in the air or throw smoke bombs, key features of the star car are intact. Perhaps most important, the red scanner light on the nose glows and makes a humming noise.

The car has two working video screens on the dashboard, and the cockpit features buttons that light up in green, yellow and red: ski mode, rocket boost, micro jam, silent mode, oil slick and eject.

The car belongs to Tim Russo of Livermore, a Kassabian customer who figured now was a good time to test the market, with the 25th anniversary of the show's debut coming up.

Russo purchased the car 10 years ago at an auction in San Diego, and has spent the last decade finding parts to restore it.

Transformers is a classic animated series and Marvel comic and Transformer the Movie will be hitting theaters on July 4th this year.

Nike has decided to produce a shoe in the colorways of Autobot Commander Optimus Prime and here is a sample of the shoe where they have selected the Air Trainer III to work with. This shoe features the use of 3M, patent materials, and leather in a silver, blue, and red colorway. There is no release info at this time, but for Transformers fans, cross your fingers and hope that Nike will deliver these in time for this years Transformers The Movie.

In this clip from YouTube, Alanis Morissette covers the Black Eyed Peas song "My Humps". Seem like a strange paring? It is. But it's on purpose. I think dcmjzero put it best when he posted this comment on Digg.com: "Who would have thought the best way to make fun of a song would be to sing it seriously?"



You may not have realized how poorly written "My Humps" was before watching this clip. Honestly, Fergie isn't known for crafting thoughtful lyrics. I think there's a line in her new song Glamorous that goes like this: "Taco Bell. Raw as hell". Actually I take it all back. Fergie is the Shakespeare of modern times.
