Rembrants Sing Thundercats Theme

Remember a band called The Rembrants? If not, don't feel bad. The Rembrants were pretty much just a one hit wonder from the 1990's. Their only hit song was "I'll Be There For You" (aka the Friends TV show theme song).

Well, if you happen to be a fan of the classic cartoon Thundercats (1985), you might suffer a slight Rembrants flashback. Part of the DVD extras for Thundercats - Season Two, Vol. 1 is music video of the Thundercats theme song sung by The Rembrants. In case you are curious, here's a behind the scenes promotional video of the music video I found on Vmix.

Where's Mumm-Ra when you need him?

The Real Wedding Crashers

Like pulling pranks on your friends? What about at your own wedding? American broadcast network, NBC, has a new reality TV series called The Real Wedding Crashers.

Inspired by the feature film Wedding Crashers (Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Christopher Walken), the premise of the show is simple. Wedding couples team up with five crashers to create the most awkward and uncomfortable wedding weekend possible.

The crash team consists of five improvisational performers who pretend to be various people in the wedding such as the pastor, the wedding planner, a waiter, a long lost friend, a tailor, and even an exterminator. The bride and groom are in on the fun as they assist the crashers in pulling pranks on their guests. Why would they do such a thing? Attended enough weddings in your lifetime and they all will start to blend together. Hopefully a "crashed" wedding will be one you will always remember.

I'm actually pretty excited to see this show. It premieres sometime in April (2007) on NBC.

Respect The Buddha - Big Bad Buddha

Leshan Giant Buddha is an enormous statue carved into the cliff side of Lingyun Mountain. The Buddha is over 71 meters (230ft) tall with 28 meter (92ft) wide shoulders and a 15 meter (49ft) high head. More than 100 people can sit between the Buddha’s feet.

The carving of this massive statue commenced in 713AD during the Tang dynasty and was only completed in 803AD. The Buddha overlooks the confluence of the Min, Qingyi and Dadu rivers just east of Leshan and is reputed to be the largest carved stone Buddha in the world. A local saying explains, "The mountain is a Buddha, the Buddha is a mountain".

Walking down twisting Nine Turn Cliff Road, precariously cut into the mountain in the 8th Century, makes one appreciate the enormous accomplishment of this ancient endeavor. Views are stunning over elbows and knees, taking in the river scene and Leshan's skyline. When you reach the beach, you find a set of Gulliver-sized toes over eight meters long.

Besides the Buddha itself, the surrounding park is worth a stroll, with many temples and stunning views

Retro Games In Stop Motion

Pes from EatPES.com frequently makes stop motion short films and commercials, but their latest work titled "Game Over" is a masterpiece.

Game Over is a medley of several 1980s arcade games including a stop motion version of Centipede done with cup cakes and a pizza and pillow case version of Pac-Man. Seriously, it's great stuff and will be one of the easiest 5 star ratings you've ever given to a Youtube video.

If you get a chance, head over to Pes' site and watch some of the other stuff. I recommend the Bacardi commercial. Amazing work.

Before Sean Paul there was SNOW

Darrin O'Brien (born October 30, 1969, in Toronto, Ontario) is an award-winning Canadian reggae musician, best known by his stage name Snow.

Snow was born and raised in the North York district of Toronto. For much of his childhood, he lived in the Allenbury Gardens housing projects, just outside of The Peanut and Fairview Mall.

Discovered by executive producer David Kenneth Eng and Steve Salem, Snow had signed a contract to record on their Motorjam/Elektra record label. His 1993 debut album was 12 Inches of Snow. MC Shan produced the entire album, apart from one track which was produced by John Ficarrotta.

The album was produced shortly before Snow was imprisoned for a year on an assault charge. Upon his release from prison, his first single "Informer," featuring MC Shan, became a chart topping hit. The song spent seven consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Reel Deal Classic - "The Last Dragon"

Scenes:
1. Designate his ass, for dismemberment.
2. Shonuff Intro
3. Catches bullets with his teeth?
4. Yeah coolie, kiss my Converse.
5. Fat girl gongs you.
6. Ain't no slaves here either, know what am saying?
7. Playtimes over, boi!
8. When I say "Who's the master..."

Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon is a 1985 martial arts parody film, featuring a predominantly Black cast, produced by Rupert Hitzig for Berry Gordy and directed by Michael Schultz. A critical disappointment, yet a financial success, upon its original release, The Last Dragon is now considered a cult classic. The film stars Taimak, Vanity, Julius J. Carry, III, Christopher Murney, and Faith Prince. The film was released in theatres by TriStar Pictures on March 22, 1985.

The plot, set in New York City, follows a black teenage martial arts student named Leroy Green, who is often referred to as "Bruce Leroy" (although he never actually calls himself that). With dreams of becoming a great martial artist like his idol, Bruce Lee, Leroy goes on a quest to achieve the highest level of martial arts accomplishment, known as "The Glow".

As its name suggests, it is a mystical energy that can be tapped into by a martial arts master. When a fighter's hands glow, he is one of the best in the world. When his entire body glows, he is the greatest fighter alive. On his journey to find "The Glow", however, Leroy must confront villains such as a crooked arcade mogul Eddie Arcadian (Murney) and the evil Sho'nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, from which he must also protect his younger brother Richie (Leo O'Brien) and his girlfriend, VJ Laura Charles (Vanity).

Cigar 101 - Cutting and Lighting

Closely examine the "head" of the cigar - this is the closed end to be clipped. Most cigars have what is called a "cap" - a bit of tobacco leaf used to close of the end. Inspect the cigar to determine how far down the length of the cigar the cap goes (this is usually 1/4" - 3/8; sometimes less, and on figurado shapes sometimes longer). Where the cap stops is your cutting limit, If you cut beneath this, or even too close, your cigar will start to unravel.

Try to cut as minimally as possible while still opening approximately 75%-85% of the end. This might mean cutting as little as 1/32" down or as much as 3/8" - it depends on the cigar's roll and cap.

When using a guillotine cutter, line up your cigar at eye level and clip it quickly. This method will almost always guarantee satisfactory results

A punch cutter, although this isn't really a cutter, is easy to use, makes a perfect round opening, and negates the problem of how much to clip.

Another option is a V-Cut clipper. Cap length isn't a concern here, as the smoker rests the cigar against the clipper while it takes out a v-notched shaped bit of tobacco of the same size every time.

Cigar scissors are elegant, but difficult to use and hard to carry around. Other more personal methods include razor blades, Swiss Army or pocket knives, or even your teeth. Ultimately, clipping your cigar is a matter of what works best for you.

Lighting Your Cigar
Is there a special, approved method that all smokers should use? This question will provide endless hours of debate with your fellow aficionados. Everyone seems to have their own opinion on how best to light a cigar. Ultimately, you'll have to find your own best method. To help, here are a few "opinions" we've gathered.

When using a match, wait until the sulfur burns off before placing it to your cigar. Many smokers prefer long cedar matches called a cedar spill. A cedar spill is a long, thin strip of Spanish Cedar which is lit first and then used to light the cigar. This method is often observed at fancy cigar dinners, as it is a rather elegant way to light up, but not all circumstances lend itself to this method.

Butane lighters seem to be the lighter of choice. Many smokers complain that gasoline based lighters impart an unpleasant flavor. Zippo (who manufactures such lighters) claims that if the flame is allowed to burn a few seconds first, the disturbing odor will dissipate.

What ever your flame source, preheat the foot by slowly rolling the cigar above the flame. Once the foot is heated, place the cigar in your mouth and draw as you keep slowly rolling the cigar above the flame, but never quite letting the flame touch the cigar. Slowly spin the cigar to establish an even burn. Once you've got it going (examine the glowing foot to make sure the burn is even) take a few slow steady draws. Then wait a half minute or so for the burn to establish. Now sit back and enjoy.

If your cigar goes out, knock off the ash, gently blow through the cigar to clear out the old smoke, then follow your method of choice to relight.

TiVo CEO Promises Cheap HD TiVo

Think paying $800 for a Series3 HD TiVo box without service is insane? You are not alone. Consumers weren't exactly excited about coughing up that much $$$ for the Series3 and TiVo sales have slumped. In fact, TiVo just reported a Q4 net loss of $18.7 million.

With products like Apple TV and a Windows Vista CableCARD coming out soon, TiVo has to do something before they are quickly phased out of the digital living room.

So what's their solution? Just make it cheaper I guess. TiVo CEO Tom Rogers had this to say in his quarter results commentary: "We will be highly focused this year on launching a lower-priced, mass appeal High Definition product."

That vague quote doesn't exactly guarantee a cheap HD TiVo during 2007, but hopefully they can come up with something during the next 9 months. Whatever they are going to do, they better do it quick. I already pre-ordered an Apple TV and if it lives up to expectations, my Series2 TiVo will be making a brief cameo on eBay before it leaves my living room.

NBC Remixes The Office

Get ready for the television "newpeat." In an unusual experiment aimed at improving ratings for reruns, tonight American broadcast network NBC plans to air two previously seen half-hour episodes of The Office that have been re-edited into a new hour-long show.

Some scenes will be cut so producers can weave in unaired footage that introduces a new storyline into the older episodes. NBC, a unit of General Electric Co., won't film new footage but is instead relying on snippets that have been cut from previous tapings, a spokeswoman says. The "newpeats," as NBC is calling the episodes, will air tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

In an age where old TV episodes are widely distributed online -- in some cases just hours after they air - networks are struggling to attract audiences to the repeats on their schedules. The Big Four American networks in decades past could count on a significant audience to turn up for reruns because there wasn't that much competition. But with video games, the Internet, DVDs sporting extras and the continued proliferation of cable all competing for their time, audiences expect something more.

Baselworld 2007 – Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Le Chronographe

According to TimeZone:

The new Masterpiece Le Chronographe in stainless steel features the new ML 106-2 manufacture movement, which was conceived and developed entirely in Maurice Lacroix’ own technical department in Saignelégier last year.

The Maurice Lacroix manufacture ML 106-2 chronograph movement is a work of superlatives and a true original. Moreover, with uniquely grand proportions for a wristwatch chronograph it is a genuine technical accomplishment.

Maurice Lacroix’ new design has minimised this risk – it guarantees the correct positioning of the individual chronograph components, and hence the accuracy of the information displayed, by pressing the blocker against the wheels for longer than was heretofore possible.

This rare 60-minute counter demands a significantly higher level of watchmaking complexity and is far more difficult to manufacture than the familiar 30- or 45-minute counter. The ML 106-2 calibre also features top-quality components, like a swan neck precision adjustment and two genuine gold chatons in the chronograph bridge.

The case, in stainless steel and features two sapphire crystals, the top one being AR coated. The dial is solid sterling silver 925 in anthracite finish .

Pretty badass...

Gyroflex Pro Review

Spend a lot of time on the computer? Who doesn't these days. After awhile you'll probably develop wrist pains. A quick and easy way to exercise your hands and fingers everyday is to spend a few minutes with the Gyroflex Pro.

The Gyroflex Pro uses gyroscopic inertia (centrifugal force's younger cousin) to increase strength and coordination in your hand, wrist, arm and shoulder. It also aids in the prevention and rehab of certain injuries, helps with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and reduces stress.

To use the Gyroflex Pro, just pull the starter cord and hold on tight. After a few sessions you'll improve your coordination, strengthen your grip, build your forearms, and really exercise your hands and fingers.

Specs & Features:
  • Measures: 4" x 1.375"
  • Weighs: 10 oz.
  • Build strength while improving coordination
  • New easy grip outer sphere for better control and prolonged usage.
  • Generates up to 32lbs of pressure when maximum RPM's is reached
  • Exclusive new design for ease of starting.
  • Increases total arm strength
  • Improves coordination
  • Aids in prevention of carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Reduces stress

I know a graphic artist who wears a rollerblading wrist guard because he has Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Honestly, it looks a little dorky. Walking around your office while wearing a rollerblading wrist guard isn't exactly the best way to meet girls. Maybe I'll buy him a Gyroflex Pro and try to save his nightlife from social destitute.

Besides graphic artists, anyone who has to do repetitive hand motions all day like secretaries, computer analysts, porn movie fluffers and athletes, can benefit from this little ball.

The Final Word on all Pop-Cultural Arguments

According to VSL:

The most valuable benefit the NCAA basketball tournament provides — beside easy money won from friends and co-workers — is closure: In every round, someone wins, someone goes home, and someone is demonstrably better than everyone else. Why can’t all disputes, no matter how subjective, be settled so definitively?

This is precisely the public service that Mark Reiter and Richard Sandomir’s The Enlightened Bracketologist: The Final Four of Everything (out 3/6) offers: In 101 of the pettiest cultural categories — e.g., Bob Dylan cover songs, James Bond gadgets, bald guys — the authors and their team of contributors have pitted the 32 top entries against each other, in elegant NCAA-style brackets (created by design legend Nigel Holmes), and conclusively determined a winner in each field.

Greatest priceless thing? The Magna Carta tops the Mona Lisa, says Sotheby’s executive Leila Dunbar. Best punctuation mark? The space beats the semicolon, says OED editor Jesse Sheidlower. We could argue with some of the individual results (Tetris a better video game than The Legend of Zelda?!?), but our admiration for Bracketology, like the decision of the judges, is final.

Blockbuster Online Denies Problems

According to bloggers and a flood of angry comments on the Internet, operations at American DVD rental service, Blockbuster Online, have come to a screeching halt. Angry customers are reporting that they have not received movies from their queues for weeks. According to one customer, repeated calls to Blockbuster customer service were fruitless and when he finally did get through, a customer service rep told him that their mail rental system was shut down.

However an official spokesperson for Blockbuster denied the existance of any problems when contacted by Ars Technica.com. "We've been continually shipping product. If a customer feels like they are not getting a movie, they should follow up with our customer service. But in terms of product being allocated and shipped, there has been no interruption."

Despite what the spokesperson says, sites like DVDRR.com have been flooded with negative comments like this one from a Blockbuster Online user named Cat: "No dvds have been shipped for over a week despite 3 open slots and 26 available titles in my queue. Emails and phone calls to customer support have not succeeded in getting this resolved, just promises that are not kept. I will be canceling and switching to Netflix."

Is it just a random coincidence that Blockbuster Online users didn't receive any DVDs last month? Or is Blockbuster being less than truthful about possible problems with their rental service? Blockbuster is engaged a tough battle against Netflix, the market leader in online rentals. Admitting to significant service interruptions might persuade users to switch to Netflix.

Autotropolis

Autotropolis, a new search engine for the auto elite, has launched it’s new, streamlined website for finding that perfect vehicle of your dreams. Geared towards the more high- end dealers, you start by choosing the specific model of your choice and entering in your zip code. Autrotropolis will formulate a list of nearby auto retailers tailored to your needs and listed by relevance (not necessarily by closest proximity) in your area.

After choosing a dealer from the site generated list, the merchant’s informational stats will pop up, along with a Google map of the surrounding location. As well as retrieving basic information like the address and phone number, Autrotropolis also displays added info such as:

* Employee number
* Employee range
* Services
* Year opened
* Square footage
* Sales volume
* Headquarters
* Metro area and closest cities served

Following the detailed specs, is a “Detailed Reviews” page which lists user reviews of each dealer. The site also showcases a user generated voting system which allows you to give the dealer either a thumbs up or a thumbs down, which in turn creates a number scale system on which to judge which dealerships offer the best product and service in the eyes of the consumer. The more votes a dealer has, the higher the rank they get within their locale. Autotropolis also lets users write specific reviews that are posted immediately without waiting for comment moderation (and also weeds out “spam” comments by requiring a minimum text to submit).

Autotropolis provides an impressive user generated search site, mainly because it focuses in on the product at large and relies heavily on user feedback to score and rank each dealer. Overall, the site resembles an automobile inspired Citysearch.com with a Digg.com voting system and overall easy to use site navigation. So, whether you’re in the market for a new Lexus or you just want to scout out local wheels, Autotropolis is the one stop information portal for those of us who deserve the best, but don’t have the time to do the research.

The PimpWiz.com Bottom Line: This has been a paid review. Yes, we are "hoeing" out our article space for money. We can not promise positive reviews but we will look at it if you pay us enough ;-)

Geekiest Tattoo Ever

The tricky thing about tattoos is that they are for life. Permanent. Forever inked into your body. People always talk about getting a silly tattoo, but usually that's all just talk. Then once in awhile you hear about someone getting a really bad tattoo. My favorite bad tattoo example is either an 8-ball or a donkey on a surfboard smoking a joint. But now I guess I need to add room to that list.

This guy (see image) decided to not only get a bad tattoo, but he added a super nerdy twist to it. In case you don't know what his head/body tattoo means, it's a piece of HTML code currently used when making web pages. Like I said, very, very nerdy. What makes it worse is that this tattoo is on his neck. Imagine having to explain your HTML head/body tattoo to everyone over-and-over again the next time you are at a wedding or social event.

Plus think about this. Sure, today HTML is currently a commonly used computer language. But the Internet is evolving fast. I wouldn't expect HTML to still be that relevant in the next 10 - 20 years. Hopefully techniques in laser tattoo removal will make significant some strides during the next couple decades.

The Legend of the Mole People NYC

Here is a breakdown of the secret underground lifestyle myth known as the “mole people“.

Supposedly there are openings all over the city - one of the main ones being along one of the tunnels that runs underneath Riverside Park. Apparently, the latest homeless census reports that approximately 500,000 homeless people are thought to live underground in the abandoned subway tracks and tunnels, but the myths take on a much more complex theory. Some people, including journalist Jennifer Toth of “The Mole People: Life In The Tunnels Beneath New York City” fame, believe that the mole people have developed an underground society of sorts. These communities are thought to have hierarchies, cultural traits, and even illegal electricity and hot water hookups. However, there is a huge lack of concrete evidence to support this since some of these so-called communities are buried deep within the undergrounds of the city and are not easily accessible.

Do any of you have a “mole people” story or your own opinions about what sort of life goes on in the tunnels underneath our city?

Do you think there is a King of the Mole people?

Minx of the Month - Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson was born in New York City on November 22nd, 1984 to Karstan Johansson (a Danish architect) and Melanie Sloan. The twenty-two year old actress is one of five children and has a twin brother who is also an actor. After enrolling in acting classes at age three, she quickly progressed on to theatre where she was soon discovered and at the age of eight, played opposite Ethan Hawke in the Off Broadway stage production of Sophistry.

Fast forward fourteen years later and she’s an internationally known figure- not only for her raw acting ability, but for her 50’s pin up model good looks. Recently starring in Lost in Translation and In Good Company, Johansson has been nominated for four Golden Globes and been named "Sexiest Woman Alive" by Esquire Magazine. She has appeared in numerous commercials and print covers, is a spokeswoman for Louis Vuitton, L'Oreal and Reebok and has a filmography that cites an impressive twenty-eight films (not to mention numerous television appearances) for such a relatively young actress. She has also taken on an adamant political stance, helping out with the John Kerry presidential campaign in 2004 and an anti-poverty campaign organized by Bono.

Scarlett, who like most child actresses, has been in the process of curbing the young, wholesome appearance that has followed her throughout her early films for the last few years by taking on more complex and adult roles and recently turned a few heads in 2006 with her highly controversial Vanity Fair cover in which she posed nude with Keira Knightly and Tom Ford. Stating that she likes to date older men and cannot see herself dating anyone under the age of thirty, she has been linked to many of Hollywood's elite including Josh Hartnett, Jared Leto and Benicio Del Toro. As for her opinion on relationships, Scarlett doesn't believe in monogamy because it's "not human nature to be with just one person" but "contrary to popular belief...[she is] not promiscuous" and tries hard to "make [her relationships] work in a monogamous way".

So, what's next for Scarlett? She has "The Nanny Diaries" coming out this year with three other films in pre-production and another two that were just announced. And if that isn't enough to keep her busy, she has also tapped into the music industry, recording an album of Tom Waits covers with a CD aptly titled "Scarlett Sings Tom Waits" which is slated to be dropped in the Spring of this year.
