Ask Lauren #6 - "Waiting to Exhale"

Hi Lauren,
I dont know exactly what my problem is and I dont know if its my fault or if its the fact that women are getting more shallow and stuck up...but i am having problem with finding an attractive lady that is interested in me. I see all these stupid phone
chat lines with these extremely beautiful women whom i just think if i had her my life would be complete. I think that me being a funny and pretty smart guy who has respect for women and treats women and people as a whole with kindness and compasion.

Now, i know i am not the most attractive man around and well that is problem because i got lazy after quitting soccer and cross country in high school and just didnt do much. I have a lack of confidence in myself for this looks problem. I will be at work and a girl will come in and i wouldnt know if she likes me or if she just cant stand looking at me...till maybe after she walks out someone will tell me she was flirting with me. I guess one problem of mine is knowing when a girl is attracted to me and wants to get to know me more.

Another problem i am starting to realize is that i have no idea what to say to a beautiful woman though in my head i do. I will go over and over things when i am alone and think they are very awesome things to say and would work but then when the moment comes i freeze up and just get stuck. I can never ask a girl for her number, and when i do get her number it seems that i never know when to call her, time frame wise, and why she sometimes will neeeeever call me back or even care that icalled.

Yes i probably seem to you like a huge train wreck but you look like someone that could probably help. You being absolutely amazing all around from eyes to lips to everything, and being a girl would know about what girls want and how guys should approach the subject. i never thought i would reach a low point in my life to have to email someone i dont know about a problem that is embarrassing to even tell my best
closest friends. So if you could do anything to help me out, that would be wonderful. I dont know, i doubt having you do a personal actual help one on one would be the most out of my mind things to even bring up but i brought it up because i do best learning that way. well, whatever you can do would be awesome and you have a great website and yeah just a total dream lady. well hope to hear back.

a hopeless romantic and helpless at the moment,
Mr. Hopeless Romantic

Lauren Response:

Dear Mr. Hopeless Romantic,

There is one word that comes to mind when I hear your story, confidence. I don’t think that you understand the power in being, or even acting brave, self-assured and confident. There are so many men out there who women may not think are the epitome of “handsome,” but they walk away from speaking/meeting them and say to one another “there is just SOMETHING about him.” That SOMETHING is confidence. It is the way in which a man stands, holds himself, makes eye contact, and laughs. It is in the way he puts himself together, the way he says what he wants and means it, the way he smiles. All of this done as if he knows himself, and somehow knows/gets you already.

Women respond to men who respond to themselves, and seem to know or see a self-value whether feigned or not (most women can’t tell the difference). Assume all women speaking to you, unless she is your boss or married (and even then sometimes you can still score), are flirting with you. And then respond back with your steady gaze and knowing glances, and always listen, don’t just hear her, listen to her. Women think it is sexy when a man listens and can absorb what she is saying and what she really means.

I don’t think women are becoming shallower. I think they, and men as well, have been distracted by the glamour of our times and have forgotten what a real and substantiated relationship is about and what it should mean. Thus, we often find ourselves seeking the wrong things when looking for a significant other. Although a nice rack and tight booty can go a long way (or make you go a long time), money and beauty go away with time. Heart and charisma don’t.

You should be looking for a friendship first and foremost, because all successful love stems from that. As Ella Wheeler Wilcox said, “all love that has not friendship for its base is like a mansion built upon the sand.” Apply this to your relationship/hook-up search AND to yourself, and all will not be lost.

You need to look at the things in your life that make you proud and the aspects of your character, whether physical or not, that make you happy. Focus on those things and not the negative. None of us are perfect and none of us can honestly say that we think we are. But it is about finding a way to see your glass as half full and not half empty. You can’t truly love or see worth in someone else, before you do within yourself.

Good luck and best wishes,

From one hopeless romantic to another, Lauren

Pilates Girl Workout

Thumb_defaultEver see those massage or yoga booths at street festivals? Most of the time they are pretty empty and the staff is really bored. The average person probably just walks past these booths but not comedian Adam Wade. He couldn't resist the super flexible Rachel giving pilates demos at the Hoboken Arts and Music Festival.

Here's a video of his pilates experience. Keep your eyes peeled for a chubby.

This is what Adam Wade wrote in his blog:
During the Hoboken Arts and Music Fair (this past Sunday), I met a nice girl at the pilates booth who wanted to show me the ropes. My buddy shot this video. It was a great experience. I might even enroll in a class at her school once I recover from this stellar workout.

He of course couldn't help himself from hitting on her the entire time.

Battlestar Galactica The Story So Far

With the premiere of season 3 of Battlestar Galactica just two weeks away (October 6th), the Sci Fi Channel (US) has released a free retrospective episode of the first two seasons of Battlestar Galactica on iTunes. They hope to entice new viewers to the show, as well as remind current fans just where the series left off.

I found this official press release on ScFi.com:
SCI FI Channel and its sister NBC Universal networks will air a one-hour recap special of the original series Battlestar Galactica in advance of the show's October third-season premiere. Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far will incorporate footage from the original SCI FI miniseries and the previous two seasons of the Peabody Award-winning series. The special will be narrated from the point of view of Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell), the resistance leader on Cylon-occupied New Caprica.

Throughout September, The Story So Far will also be made available for download via iTunes and XBox Live and will be distributed at Best Buy as a bonus DVD with the Battlestar Galactica season 2.5 DVD set and other genre titles from Universal Home Video. The DVD will also be distributed to visitors to the Universal Studios theme parks, and snippets of the special will be available on YouTube.com, Google Video and other video portal sites.

Here's the iTunes link for: Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far

Why not? It's a great show and the price is right (free).

USA Embarassed at the Ryder Cup

Growing up, the USA never lost in anything. Not the Olympics, not the World Games, and certainly not the Ryder Cup. But after this past weekend’s drubbing by the Europeans, the United States has now lost 3 straight Ryder Cup matches in the past 6 years, and questions have arisen. Will we ever win again? Why aren’t we winning? Is Phil Mickelson breathing?

The United States came to Ireland for the Cup more motivated than ever. Losing two contests in a row didn’t sit well for the Americans. Captain Tom Lehman vs Captain Ian Woosnam was sure to be a feisty, energetic matchup, especially on the Europeans turf. The Americans came in top heavy, with the best player in the universe, Tiger Woods. Woods has struggled throughout this contest in the past, having a career losing record while dominating tournaments all over the map. The Americans also come with the world’s number two and three players, Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk. To keep it short, the States has the players and the talent. The Europeans on the other hand come with lots of talent, most of it young in guys like Sergio Garcia, Paul Casey, and Luke Donald. The older members, Monty and Olazabal, lead the group and bring instant credibility to the team.

More than talent, the Ryder Cup is decided on how well the team works together, and who plays whom in certain matchups. Of course, making a few putts wouldn’t hurt, but this is much different from you normal golf match. This is about teammates reading each others putts, playing in formats where you hit your partners ball, and taking a backseat to individualism, something that is not the case when you play golf.

This year was no different than the last few. While Tiger did his job this time for the team, the rest of the team was a disaster, as they chose 4 rookies to shine in the spotlight, and all of them brought zero to the table. While the Americans gave fist pumps to each other, the Europeans cheered every putt, danced around on aces, and treated the contest as if it was the Super Bowl.

Maybe one day the Americans will wake up and realize they missed the commercials as well.

Mercedes with Backseat iMac

Perhaps there should be a German version of the popular MTV show Pimp My Ride. German car customizer Mattes Interieurtechnik built a Mercedes CLS with an integrated backseat iMac. Mattes even carefully covered the outer edge of the iMac in leather to help it blend in with the cream colored interior.

Where are the cables? Mattes didn't want any wires to clutter up his masterpiece, so he made sure to get a wireless mouse and Bluetooth keyboard. I wonder if he integrated the iMac into the speaker system so his passengers can be backseat DJs.

You can check out some more pictures here.

Top Ten Sugar Mamas

When you’re rich, it’s easy to live off of daddy’s money. Others, however, use their resources to create their own empires and separate themselves from the name that made them famous before they were even born.

Here, PimpWiz has the ten hottest heiresses that are redefining the word ‘socialite’ as they take over the nation using business savvy over status.

10. Nicky Hilton, 22.
She might be the less popular sister, but Nicky Hilton is making a name of her own behind the scenes. Instead of using her name to become most famous for doing nothing, Nicky, an heiress to the Hilton hotel fortune, is creating her own image with a handbag line, clothing company, and, most recently, a hotel chain.

9. Athina Onassis Roussel, 21.

The granddaughter of the late Aristotle Onassis (yes, as in the late Jackie Kennedy Onassis’ husband), Athina Onassis Roussel was already a billionaire by 18, having inherited $2.7 bil on her birthday simply for carrying the Onassis name. Now 21, Athina is a 2008 Olympic hopeful (for the Greek equestrian team), has received another $2 billion birthday present, got hitched to a fellow equestrian, and is currently waiting to take over the Onassis Foundation as president.

8. Georgina Bloomberg, 23.
The daughter of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is no stranger to the socialite scene. A fellow equestrian, Georgina is also a 2008 Olympic hopeful, training in Wellington, Florida in between classes at New York University. Check her out in “Born Rich”, Jamie Johnson’s documentary on the nation’s youngest and wealthiest.

7. Anna Anisimova, 21.
It’s hard to believe there’s more than one Paris Hilton out there but, at 21, Russian heiress Anna Anisimova is catching up quickly. The former model is now a student at New York University with fellow silver spooner Georgina Bloomberg, but that hasn’t stopped her from buying an uber-dope, $15 million apartment in the Time Warner Center in New York’s Columbus Circle, renting Denise Rich’s Southampton pad for nearly $600,000, or picking up Diane von Furstenberg’s $23 million townhouse in 2005. What Paris has in shoes, Anna makes up for in real estate!

6. Aerin Lauder, 36.
With the late, great Estee Lauder as your grandma, you have no choice but to be beautiful. At 36, Aerin Lauder might be the oldest heiress on the list, but she’s definitely one of the hottest. As a senior vice president and board trustee of the Estee Lauder Company, Aerin is taking over the family makeup business (her dad is the Clinique Laboratories chairman) by storm, incorporating her own style and introducing models like Elizabeth Hurley and Liya Kebede to the Estee Lauder family.

5. Holly Branson, 25.
When your dad’s so popular that London’s youth would actually elect him president next to Tony Blair, it’s hard to stay low-key. Though Sir Richard Branson’s daughter Holly has some pretty big shoes to fill, she’s taking it slowly. The heiress to the $1.6 billion Virgin empire, Holly’s choosing to study at London’s University College with the hopes of becoming a pediatrician.

4. Ivanka Trump, 24.

The Donald’s tendency to marry ultra-hot women definitely paid off. Having been cut off financially by her mother Ivana since high school, Trump’s oldest daughter Ivanka paid for everything but tuition by runway modeling. Today, Ivanka’s working in the family business as vice president of real estate development for the Trump Organization and making guest appearances on shows like The Apprentice and Project Runway.

3. Dylan Lauren, 31.
Whereas fashion guru Ralph Lauren made his name from selling clothes, his daughter Dylan is making hers from selling candy. A former art history major, Dylan’s combined her knowledge of worldwide goods and innate marketing savvy to create Dylan’s Candy Bar, a now popular store which features over 4,000 kinds of candy from around the globe.

2. Lydia Hearst-Shaw, 21.
Though Lydia’s the daughter of the infamous Patty Hearst and the great-granddaughter of late media icon William Randolph Hearst, she’s been gracing the very magazine pages her family produces as a model for designers like Louis Vuitton and Heatherette. Yet as one of the heiresses $5 billion-a-year empire, modeling is probably more of a cherished hobby than a financial necessity!

1. Amanda Hearst, 22.
Amanda and first-cousin Lydia Hearst-Shaw are making their way into the media scene as the “new Hilton sisters”, taking over for the classic duo as the new fresh faces of the heiress/model world. She also shares William Randolph Hearst as her grandfather and, as another heiress to the multibillion dollar Hearst Corporation, Amanda is also making her career the Paris Hilton way: by being hot.

Want more? The bucks don’t stop here. Keep an eye out for the future’s it-heiresses - Bill and Melinda Gates’ daughters, and Danielle Steele’s girls Victoria and Vanessa Traina, to name a few – and don’t forget our favorite old-school hottie heiress, Julia Louis-Dreyfus. That’s right, Seinfeld’s Elaine Benes is the daughter of a French billionaire in real life, but she’s best known for her acting skills – beauty and brains, apparently, does pay off!

Broken iPod Reborn as iPod Dock

Got a broken iPod? If you can't fix it yourself or don't have the money to get it repaired by iPodMods, then you can always rip it apart and make an iPod dock like Andrew Monks. This photo montage on flickr shows how he teared apart his existing iPod dock and jammed it through the screen of his broken 3G iPod.

It's a very clever way to make something useful out of a busted iPod. The folks at Engadget think this might be the "start of a very wonderful, very cannibalistic trend in consumer electronics." It's always nice to breathe new life into an old gadget that you blew a couple hundred bucks on right?

Disney Sells 125k iTunes Movies

Apple has been selling movies in iTunes 7 for a full week now. How are sales? According to The Wall Street Journal, Walt Disney says they've sold 125,000 movie downloads totaling $1 million in revenue. Not bad for just 1 week.

"This is just the beginning," Disney CEO Robert Iger told Wall Street analysts at a conference Tuesday. "[iTunes] has proved [to be] a great business because there's no marketing or other expenses involved in selling digital downloads except the cost of encoding." Iger went on to predict that iTunes would help generate $50 million in additional revenue for Disney this year.

Walt Disney Pictures, which includes Pixar, Touchstone Pictures and Miramax Films, is currently the only major movie studio participating on iTunes.

75 Disney movies, including such hits as Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredibles, Good Will Hunting and National Treasure, can currently be purchased on iTunes. The other major movie studios are exploring partnerships with iTunes competitors or have disagreements with Apple over licensing fees. Disney's success this week will probably help convince the other studios that participation on iTunes is probably a good idea.

Disney was also the first to offer TV shows on iTunes a year ago from their American broadcast network ABC.

Faena Hotel - Buenos Aires, Argentina

Vacations generally fall into one of two categories. The first is a relaxing retreat, preferably in front of a large body of salt water, with no cell phones allowed and no activity taking place more stressful than grocery shopping for beer. The second is an invigorating escape with great scenery and plenty to do, all of which is more exciting than life as usual inside your cubicle. But, what if you want to relax and still have plenty of options for entertainment and sight-seeing? Faena Hotel and Universe somehow manages to fulfill both requirements.

To call Faena a hotel is entirely too limiting for the deluxe accommodations offered. The 108 rooms are classy and comfortable, heavy on the brick and a particularly manly shade of red. Accoutrements include wireless internet, automated Venetian blinds, super-soft Egyptian cotton sheets, home theaters, a room safe, and terraces with a gorgeous view of the city. The color scheme extends to huge, party-ready banquet halls and a state-of-the-art gym, and a library lounge. If you’d prefer wet to intellectual, Faena’s got you covered with its sprawling swimming pool and accompanying bars. If you’re feeling stressed, get a massage from one of the professionals on staff, or investigate more of Faena’s cache of day spa offerings.

This gorgeous utopia resides in Buenos Aires, which, as the capital city of Argentina, already has plenty of fun stuff built in. Roam the city checking out the art and antiques, take one of the lovely local ladies out for a night of wining, dining, and tangoing, engage your sporty side with a rousing polo match. The possibilities are endless, so don’t forgeon t your camera. Ready to book your presidential suite? Check out The Faena Hotel webste for rates, information, and gratuitous photos of this pimp-tastic facility.

St. Jude’s Runway for Life

The Annual St. Jude’s Runway for Life, an event to raise money for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases, will take place today in Beverly Hills with an extravagant showcase featuring celebrities, fashion, Broadway dance and an auction. Previous auction items have included jewelry, travel packages, autographed sports memorabilia and high-end fashion items. But this year, a private donator who wishes to remain anonymous has donated a rare 2003 Ferrari Enzo to be auctioned off for the star-studded event. The bright red sports car is one of only 400 cars in the world. It also comes complete with black interior, books, tools custom luggage and an opening bid of 875,000. It will be auctioned off by Andrea Fiuczynski, the president of Christie’s Los Angeles and is the second time an Enzo has been up for auction.

Coined one of the most famous performance cars in history, this is a dream for any sports car aficionado or collector. Not only sought after for it’s sleek design, this baby features a 650 hp 12-cylinder engine, carbon ceramic brakes, scissor doors, carbon fiber body, steering wheel mounted controls and a mere 1,300 miles. It also has the ability to go from 0 – 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, making it one of the fastest street legal cars in the world. Considering it’s also been housed and maintained at a Ferrari workshop, we’re guessing it’s in tip top shape.

Last year’s event raised in excess of 300,000 for St. Jude’s Cancer Research and is expected to top two million with this year’s auction roster. Being the 4th year this even has taken place, Runway for Life has raised over 3.25 million to date and is growing exponentially each year. This year’s event will take place at the Beverly Hilton International Ballroom and considering it’s success in the past and the fact that this monster is up for bid it’s sure to be a tremendous success.

For tickets or more information on the auction, you can contact 310-996-1188 or email rani@pop.net

Noah Lehmann-Haupt of Gotham Dream Cars

At 28, Noah Lehmann-Haupt lives the life most merely dream about. As the founder and president of Gotham Dream Cars, the rental company he started a mere two years ago with one Ferrari and an honest smile has expanded into an inventory of over $2.5 million dollars worth of cars, ranging from Porsches to Lambos.

While he makes running Gotham sound easy enough for anyone to do, think again – his company’s currently the only major rental company for exotic sports cars in the northeast, and, with plans to expand to other parts of the country, he’ll soon be pimpin' nationwide.

PW: First, can you tell us a little bit about your company?
NLH: Gotham Dream Cars is New York’s premier exotic car rental company. We deal exclusively with what we call “ultra-exotic sports cars” and luxury cars. In the [automobile] industry, a lot of people use the word “exotic” for a car, especially in the rental business, but it can mean a lot of different things - a lot of people will call a BMW or a Mercedes-Benz an exotic car. We consider those cars luxury, certainly, but our forte is the special cars, the different cars, the ones that people dream about. That’s how we came up with the name Gotham Dream Cars. So we deal with the super brands: Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Aston Martin, Porsche, you know, that kind of stuff. We’re based here in New York, but we serve the entire northeast. We have several trucks and trailers, and we’ll actually move a car all the way [to the desired destination] – we have cars coming from Boston going down to Washington, DC [for example], so we really sort of span the entire northeast United States.

PW: How did you get started?
NLH: We got started about two and a half years ago. I’m a self-proclaimed car nut (laughs), and there was a sense that there was a demand in this city for this [particular] kind of service. There were a lot of people asking for it, I’m a pretty active member of the car community, and there was not really anybody that provided this service in a real way. And you know, like I said, a lot of the companies out there [would] rent the Mercedes or Escalades or Hummers, but you know, there are a lot of people that wanna drive the “ultra” cars. So we started up with just a Ferrari and grew from there, and we’ve been growing steadily ever since.

PW: What did you do before that? Or did you just say, “I want to start a car company. I’m gonna get this Ferrari and work it out!”
NLH: (laughs) Well, I’ve been an entrepreneur my whole life. [When] I started, I was working at a software company up in Massachusetts, and we sold that to another company here in New York, and I moved down to New York to help out with that transition a little bit, decided that I wanted to do something different, then the idea kind of came to me, and that was it! So I wasn’t really in the car business or anything, just sort of a car nut, looking for something fun to do.

PW: How’d you swing that? You don’t just say, “I have a Ferrari, so if you wanna rent it…”
NLH: Well of course, in the beginning, we had to ask people to trust us. Now we have so many hundreds of satisfied customers that we have a testimonial section on our website and you can see lots of pictures of it, and I mean my issue is, we’ve been around for 2 and a half years, almost three years now, and we wouldn’t be here if we weren’t doin’ a really great job and having some really terrific cars. The market has a wonderful way of getting rid of those who don’t belong, and we’re, you know, sticking around.

PW: Tell us about the obstacles that got in the way of building this company?
NLH: Sure, I mean you know, everyone believes that it’s all fun and games, and a lot of people always call me up and say “man, I wish I could be you, I wish I could start this business” but the reality is that there are a lot of ups and downs to this – ya know, cars get broken a LOT. These cars are incredibly finicky, and we spend an enormous amount of money both insuring them and repairing them, just because of the nature of this business. So there are, you know, as much fun as it is to occasionally drive around and be able to deal with and play with these cars, you know, there’s the downsides of having to deal with when they break, angry customers, and people being late - you know, all that kind of stuff. So it’s a challenge always – when you’re in a luxury business, customer service is SO important, and so it’s a challenge sometimes when the cars don’t play along, but we do our best, and we work with what we have.

PW: What are the perks of having a supercar rental company?
Yea. I mean, the perks are pretty clear, you know? I mean, I have 14 of the world’s best cars in my garage that I can pretty much use at any time, which is pretty much the perk, and it’s a lot of fun. And I’m a car nut, and you know, to be 28 years old, and have access to…

PW: Damn! You’re only 28??

NLH : Haha, yea…I’m only 28, so to have access to a 2+ million dollar car collection is pretty cool. But I think the other perks are meeting some really, really amazing people. And I think one of the fun things about this business, and one of the programs we’re actually about to launch, is a program called our Dream Share Club - it’s sort of a subprogram of our rental business, I guess if I could sort of say I’m selling the experience of owning all of these cars. You pay a fixed rate - it’s very similar to the rest of the other organizations, like the Classic Car Club that a lot of people are familiar with. But you pay a fixed annual fee, and you really have access to the entire fleet of cars at any time, and you have a certain number of days per year that you’re allowed to use it. But it’s really sort of an all-you-can-eat menu on the vehicles, so really you just pay a fee, you get involved, you can call us up at anytime and say, “today I’m feelin’ like taking the Bentley out, I’ve got a date tonight, and you know, tomorrow, I’ll take the Aston Martin for a couple of days.” So it’s really a cool experience; you get a fixed number of days that you’re allowed to take the car, but it’s much more relaxing than renting cause you don’t have to sign a whole sheet of paperwork every time you take the car out, you don’t have to give us credit cards all the time [etc.] - it just takes the hassle away and basically lets you buy into the experience of doing what we do: having a garage full of cars at all times.

PW: Who are your main customers?
NLH: We serve everyone. I mean, there’s really not one single group. There are a lot of companies out there that will say, “We focus on the music community” and whatnot, but we’re [for] everyone. Our customers include small business owners, like guys who own very successful plumbing businesses, and who have done very well for themselves, maybe not to the point where they’re going to go out and buy ten exotic cars, but certainly where they can enjoy them. We do a lot of birthday and anniversary presents, you know, very thoughtful wives and girlfriends getting their husbands and boyfriends and siblings gifts, we deal certainly with some people in the music community, and some athletes - we’ve got a couple of New York Rangers that are pretty regular customers of ours - you know it’s a little bit of everyone. We have some guys who you probably don’t want to ask what they do, and they don’t tell us what they do, and they rent from us; I mean, it’s really a little bit of everything. So we’re pretty pleased, and certainly there are a lot of cool stories that come from working with our customers.

PW: What are your plans for the future?

NLH: We are currently engaged in a growth plan. We’re expanding to other cities around the country, and we’re really excited about that. We’re about to announce a pretty big partnership agreement with another rental company to work very closely with them, and we’re gonna be building the Gotham Dream Cars brand across multiple cities. That’s what I’m really excited about, and that’s what the focus of my time is on right now: growing the business, and providing a bigger opportunity for everyone.

PW: Are you thinking of expanding to, like, perhaps maybe a concierge service - jets, things like that?
NLH: That’s a very good question, but no. I have a focus: I want to be the service provider for cars. So I know that there are a lot of different directions that companies can go, and do an all-you-can-eat concierge service, but that’s not really my interest right now. I’d like to work with concierge services [though] - I want to be on the speed dial of all the major concierge companies. In other words, my goal is to be THE provider for ultra-exotic cars anywhere. So at any point, if a hotel needs to speak with us, if a private concierge needs to speak with us, you know, if they need a car, you dial one number, anywhere, and be able to deal with Gotham Dream Cars, and we’ll provide them with tremendous service and a tremendous vehicle as well. So that’s really our plan right now.

PW: You always have the perks available when you have this company, you have all these benefits, but do you ever actually get time to party?
NLH: Yea, that’s definitely one of the good perks. One of the cool services that we provide is sort of a barter service. I work with a lot of club promoters and managers at restaurants and whatnot in the city, and it’s a pretty simple exchange: if you’re doing the opening of a new club or you have a big night, we can, with the snap of our fingers, have ten Ferraris and Lamborghinis parked in front of the club - and that’s not something you see in New York very often. Maybe in LA it’s a pretty regular occurrence, but not [here]. So we’ve done that for a number of places, and for that I have a very simple formula: as long as my business partners and I maybe get a nice table in the back for us to have a good evening, we’ll work out a nice deal as far as that goes. And I’ve done that quite a bit, and that works out pretty nicely.

PW: Yeah that'll work. We call that putting a deposit in the "Favor bank"
NLH: Yea, it’s a fair exchange for everyone. But we also have a lot of paying clients who deal with that stuff as well; we do a lot of special events all around, [though] bartering is always something I’m interested in doing. We have assets, and we want to get as much as we can out of them, but I think the primary exciting business of renting cars is just what keeps us goin’.

PW: What are some of the benefits that you have in terms of charity and giving back?

NLH: We have a very heavy involvement with a number of charities. We do a couple things. One, we work with the Ronald McDonald house from time to time to give a lot of the kids there what we call Dream Rides: we take them out for a day and take them in a whole bunch of cars and take them for a spin, [which] has been a huge success.

iTunes 7 Interface Changes

iTunes 7.0
Originally uploaded by mike3k.
After you download and install iTunes 7, you may be a little surprised at the new user interface. It doesn't even remotely resemble the standard Mac OS X Aqua theme set. iTunes 7 has a much flatter and darker appearance like a Windows or Java application.

The reaction to the new iTunes 7 interface is mixed at best. Most people feel iTunes 6 was prettier with its bright glossy controls gone. True. But the smoother and darker interface of iTunes 7 at least cleanly packs more features into the familiar iTunes interface. As a result, the new iTunes 7 interface makes it much easier to sort movies and TV shows from your music. Also iTunes now plays back video much better than it did before. Probably a good idea since they are selling movies now.

So why would Apple make such a drastic interface design change? Could this be a taste of things to come in Apple's next operating system - Leopard? Has Aqua been replaced by a flat, smooth, darker appearance? If you think hard enough, you might remember that iTunes got the new improved Aqua interface before the rest of the iLife 06 apps.

Driverless car invades China - Coming to a Ridiculously Unsafe Road Near You

The first Chinese unmanned automobile was unveiled last week at the Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo in Changchun. The vehicle, a modified First Auto Works Hongqi HQ3 Sedan, can detect road conditions thanks to two cameras that feed information to an onboard computer. Two cameras seem hardly enough to keep track of the hundreds of crazy drivers and jay-walkers one encounters in the course of a day, but the manufacturer assures us that the vehicle can stay
within the lines, stop at intersections, make turns, adapt to changing road conditions and, while the car topped out at 37 mph during the demo, can safely reach
speeds of up to 93 mph before becoming “confused.”

One can only presume what a confused car is capable of doing—-send crowd of pedestrians flying into the air, T-bone tractor trailer, become one with oak
tree—-but we’ll have to wait to find out. Surprisingly, it’s not ready for mass-production just yet.

Despite some of the safety concerns, nothing says “I’m a rock star!” quite like being one of the first to roll up to the club in your own driverless car. And in case you’re ever in doubt of your pimp status, it’s fitted with a feature that compliments
passengers as it drives. Which should offer a great comfort, I’m sure, when it’s hurtling you off a cliff at 94 mph ;-)

Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione Preview

According to AutoBlog: The production version of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione makes its debut in a couple of weeks at the Paris auto show, but thanks to Spanish site km77.com, photos and details are out on the web for all to see.The car is driven by a Maserati-sourced aluminum 4.7L V8 making 450 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of twist. A six-speed gearbox with paddle shifters channels power to the rear wheels and can also be operated in full automatic mode. Like the engine, the car's suspension is also a refugee from Maserati.

How does it look? Well, pretty much just like the concept, which is a great thing as far as we're concerned. This is the sexiest machine to come out of Italy in years. Comparisons to the TZ coupes of the 1960s are completely understandable, and the 8C Competizione has "instant classic" written all over it. You couldn't have scripted a more triumphant return to the US market for Alfa Romeo than with this car, a showstopper in every way.

Thanks to Drew at fast-autos.net for the tip!

Blackberry Pearl vs. SideKick 3 : Superphone Showdown!

For a while, cell phones and computers got smaller and smaller. Much like Nicole Ritchie, they were whittled away until they were razor-thin and hardly larger than a book of matches. Soon, phones couldn't get any smaller without disappearing or getting lost in everyone's comparatively enormous pants pockets. So, instead of pushing the miniature envelope, cell companies began to make phones that fulfilled more functions. Hence, the birth of the superphone, like the brand spanking new Sidekick 3 and Blackberry Pearl 8100. Form, function, and a sizable price tag: these phones have everything, so how do you know which one to buy? Here at Pimpwiz, we took a closer look, so you don't have to.

Looks:
Both the Sidekick and the Blackberry Pearl are easy on the eyes, so you could proudly whip out either one in public without shame. The Sidekick features a twist-up viewing screen for easier viewing, much like a laptop, Blackberry's latest is oriented more like a phone; its website offered up the motto "Small, smart, and stylish". Hence, it is sleeker and darker than its boxy, sidekicking counterpart, and more attractive in the all-around.

Sidekick: 0 Blackberry: 1

Action:
All superphones may not be created equal, but a lot of them do similar stuff. The Sidekick and the Blackberry both do plenty, including phone, internet browser, text messaging, camera, and media player. Essentially, if your flight's been delayed for an hour or six, you won't be bored with a superphone as your travel companion. Looks like a toss-up.

Sidekick: 1 Blackberry: 2

Superfluous Perks:

In an attempt to differentiate themselves from the competition, both of our superphones in question advertise particular perks or features that are (allegedly) exclusive to that model. The Sidekick wants you to know that, in case your hands are too busy to hold your phone, they'll hook you up with a Bluetooth hands-free headset. Blackberry says that, if you're too busy to dial, you can use their voice-activated dialing (VAD) feature. Of course, the Blackberry also has includes a "helpful setup wizard" for the technologically clueless among us, as well as the nebulous "Blackberry maps". Hmmm, that's sounds pretty perked out.

Sidekick: 1 Blackberry: 3

For the look and feel we say it's all Sidekick3 but for function and "takin' care of business" the Blackberry Pearl 8100 takes the cake.

Save Stargate for Pierre Bernard

Pierre Bernard from Late Night with Conan O'Brien is comfortable and furious about the cancellation of Stargate SG-1!

Last Friday, Conan aired another installment of "Pierre Bernard's Recliner of Rage" where Pierre verbally thrashed SCI-FI executive vice president of programming Mark Stern and asked him to reverse the show's cancellation (story). Pierre calls the Sc-Fi Friday night lineup of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica his "holy trinity" because of their female cast members.

Pierre, has gained notoriety among Stargate fans for repeatedly defending the Sci-Fi series on Late Night with Conan O'Brien as well as appearing in several episodes of Stargate SG-1 including the 200th episode as a zombie.

Check out the Save Stargate SG-1 installment of "Pierre Bernard's Recliner of Rage" on YouTube. When you are done please head over to SaveStargateSG1.com and help keep Pierre's "Friday night fantasy threesome" alive!
