Spot The Guido
If you've ever spent anytime on the Jersey shore during the summer, odds are you're familiar with the term guido. Guido started out as a slang expression for all Italian-Americans, but over the past few years the meaning of the word has come to define a certain look and style rather than just a person of Italian ancestry. While the Guido culture originated on Long Island, it has since spread throughout the entire Northeast.
Identifying a Guido isn't that hard to do if you know what you're looking for. For instance if you see someone sporting a Brooklyn Fade, odds are he's a Guido. A Brooklyn Fade involves shaving back the hairline and spiking the rest ala Sonic the Hedgehog. Popular clothing trends for Guidos these days include muscle T's, popped collars and unbuttoned dress shirts. And let's not forget the massive gold chains and fake tans that are ubiquitous within Guido culture.
Being a Guido isn't just about looks, it's also about attitude. The tough guy macho mentality is crucial, which is why you're likely to find packs of Guidos at your local World Gym posing in the mirror. Also Guidos like to party, and have little to no patience for anyone that gets in their way. Especially after they've put away 20 Red Bulls and Vodkas on a typical Saturday night in Nassau County.
There are a few other surefire ways to identify a Guido. Most of these guys get a thrill out of showing off their fake tans and steroid-supplied muscles, so you'll see plenty of Guidos strutting around without a shirt on. Another way is to look at the girls who accompany someone you suspect of being a Guido. Just look for fake boobs, butt implants, gum chewers and most importantly a nasal accent that makes you want to punch kittens.
