Corzo, New King of Tequilas

While tequila used to be more Old Mexico than New, it's gotten a serious upgrade to First Class, complements of Bacardi. Since Corzo was launched in 2004, the bar's been raised on what we consider high-end tequila, and that's very, very good for anyone who craves a little kick.

Original tequila may have been known for its intense and bitter flavor, but Corzo's set on dispelling the old-fashioned vibe and instead delivers something that smacks of pure modernity. Bottles are curved and shapely, substantial and smooth, and even possibly sexy, but none of that even compares to what's inside.

Corzo's tequila just keeps getting smoother. Mexican tequila had a rep for being strong and rather harsh, but these three varieties are just right for sipping come cocktail hour. Corzo's got the traditional Silver—a favorite in Mexico—that's infused with vanilla and citrus, but if you like Silver, then Reposado is your next step up. (It's got oak and honey to give it a little extra something.) Loving the sweetness? Then Anejo is what you're looking for, complete with floral notes.

If style counts for anything, then Corzo's got more than points earned on taste alone. It looks like ultra-premium brand Patron has a serious rival, because thanks to sleek design paired with a rather feisty reputation, Corzo's not going anywhere anytime soon.
