Broadway Lights up for Obama

Presidential candidate Barack Obama to Bring his Message to Broadway in unique evening with Tony-winners
When: September 24 at 8 pm
Where: New Amsterdam Theatre, 214 West 42nd Street, New York City
Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama will speak on Broadway at the beautifully refurbished New Amsterdam Theater. During this special evening, billed BARACK ON BROADWAY, Obama will speak and a constellation of Broadway stars will perform, including Christine Ebersole, Marcia Gay Harden, Ruben Santiago Hudson, Kristen Johnson, Phylicia Rashad, Jeffrey Wright, and the Broadway Inspirational Voices. The event will be Directed by multi-Tony Award winner, George C. Wolfe, and feature readings from the works of some of America’s greatest playwrights, compiled by John Lahr, Marsha Norman and Jack Viertel. Senator Obama’s words will, of course, be his own.
“Through our greatest playwrights – O’Neill, Miller, Wilder, Odets, Williams, Mamet, Tony Kushner and August Wilson---,and the Broadway experience, we articulate the longings and moral dilemmas of our time. Whether in musical song or drama, the art of the theatre helps us define and understand the dreams and debates of the nation. This, too, is what Obama is about, and why this mutual celebration is so significant,” said the Producers of the event.
