Thuraya SO-2510 - The ‘real’ smallest, lightest satellite phone ever
According to Ministry of Tech:Everyone has been drooling (see here, here, here, here, and here) over the Globalstar GSP-1700 (shown above), and claiming it to be the smallest and lightest satellite phone ever. Well, at a weight of 7.1 ounces and 135mm (height) x 55 mm (width) x 37 mm (thick), the Globalstar GSP-1700 is not the ’smallest and lightest satellite phone’ - and it’s far from it.
The true smallest and lightest satellite phone is the Thuraya SO-2510 which is satellite only (shown right, initial shipment of 10,000 units was sold out in September.) and the SO-2520 (GSM and satellite). At 4.5 ounces and 118mm (height) x 53 mm (width) x 18.8 mm (thick), I think it really hands the GSP-1700 it’s own ass on a silver platter.
Not only is the Thuraya better size wise (nice rhyme), but feature wise it packs a hell of a punch too. .
