The Book of Cool

“Watch Them…Wonder at them…Learn from them…” or so they say at Ocelot Productions. Called the ideal present for those who have everything, the Book of Cool encompasses way more than just a few cool tricks. This book accomplishes something.

Whether it’s showing you how to pull off a fancy pool shot or how to bust out a sweet break dancing move, the Book of Cool offers not only instructional guidance, but a glimmer of hope into the not so cool’s dreary world.

The brainchild of two British filmmakers, Fred and Clive Rees, the Book of Cool takes you on a journey all over the world with 35 of the most talented athletes, dancers and other random types that will teach you all you need to know about being cool and provides step-by-step instructions to make sure you get it right. The book is in reality a set of three DVD’s providing nine straight hours of mind-bending tricks followed by instructional how-to’s and a 320 page picture booklet breaking down all of the steps. Along with showcasing some of the most amazing tricks performed by the world’s top-notch street artists, the Book of Cool also provides impressive filming and photography. “Besides being cool—it’s also a simple and elegant example of video instruction.”

Voted one of the Top 10 Gifts of 2005 on the Today’s Show and winning three Webby Awards along with numerous other awards at various expos around the world, the Book of Cool is promised to be “the best gift you’ll ever get”. The producers of the Book of Cool state “the core of the product is to make publicly available especially captured film footage of the world’s ‘coolest’ exponents of sports and skills in action and divulging the ‘secrets’ of some of their phenomenal moves.”

And even though some said the instructionals weren’t the greatest, practice DOES make perfect – at least that’s what Fred Rees believes. “People always ask me what they can learn the fastest and how many cool things they will know after watching it, but that really isn’t how it works. You still have to spend time learning it. The point is to have fun messing around and doing things that other people may consider pointless.” Well stated Fred! And for forty bucks, what do you have to lose?

So, if you’re in the market for a kick-ass gift-giving idea without breaking the bank – or breaking a sweat for that matter – then here you go.
