Diademas Finas - Cigar of the Century
Davidoff, the Swiss cigar company, is marking what would have been the 100th birthday of its founder, the late Zino Davidoff, with a fitting tribute: a limited-edition cigar. In fact, Davidoff’s master blender, Hendrik “Henke” Kelner, actually created two different cigars to mark the occasion. The Diademas Finas, a panatela that, like the Cuban cigars that Zino sold in 1948, lacks a band, is the less expensive of the pair, selling for $220 for 10 in a box that features a 1940s photo of Zino. The three-digit number in the name of the Diademas 100, a larger and longer panatela than the Finas, refers to Zino’s birthday and the maximum number of these unusually sized cigars that the Davidoff torcedors, or master rollers, can produce in a day.
Each box of 50 will cost $2,300, and only 100 will be made available in America. Both versions of the Diademas will be unveiled formally on July 18 at the company’s boutique in the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas, Neveda.
