The Nossa Collection - Luxury Street Wear
Formed in early 2005 by longtime friends, Cassiano, Timbo, and Sujinho, the idea for Nossa came from a mutual desire to spend more time in Brazil. “It was really pretty simple, says Timbo, “Cassiano is from there, and me and Sujinho are crazy for Brazil, so we were like, let’s find a way to write off our plane tickets and boom, Nossa was born.”
Nossa means “Ours” in Portuguese and is also a common slang in Brazil for anything that is dope. “The inspiration behind the line is to mix the street culture of Rio and Sao Paulo with the street culture of New York to really show that Brazil is on par with any of the other major cities in terms of its influential on global style.” says Cassiano, the man most responsible for Nossa’s iconic imagery. There’s always gonna be Paris, Milan, London, Tokyo, you know, but those aren’t the only places where shit is happening, and to be honest, what’s happening in Brazil is a lot more ill.”
Nossa’s collection definitely reflects this ethic. The prints are big and bold, and thoroughly Brazilian ground through a New York aesthetic. “Favela Clash” mashes up Brazilian and Jamaican ghetto music, “Lil Ze” is a look up the barrel of twin hammers held by the infamous character in City of God, and the “Che Poppa” flips the famous portrait of Che Gevera into an homage to the great rapper of all time, Biggie.
Currently sold at some of the country’s top streetwear boutiques like Union, Rival, Prohibit, Goliath, and Turntable Lab in NYC, Shoe Gallery in Miami, Just Be in Portland, Brooklyn Projects in LA, and Standard in ATL to name a few, Nossa is one of the few new clothing lines that actually has a potential for longevity. The Nossa Crew also runs a record label Nossa Musica, and Cassiano and Sujinho are both well know DJ’s, spinning and producing Baile Funk music around the world.
