We’ve got readers asking us who and what is Garbege? Can you elaborate and let the people know who you are?
Garbege is a thought-provoking, street-inspired luxury brand that appeals to individuals who possess refined sensibilities for everything from fashion to politics.
Who came up with the Garbege concept?
Having gone to tradeshows domestically and abroad, we found ourselves unhappy with the direction in which fashion was headed. I proceeded to tell my close friend and business partner about this idea to create a line of clothing that appealed to early adopters in need of a brand that merged the aesthetics of both streetwear and luxury apparel (PUMA meets PRADA, C&C meets Chanel, FILA meets DIOR). By playing off of the words garb, as in garment and edge as in cutting edge, and the change of one vowel, Garbege was born.
Once upon a time, you guys worked for other companies with perks and benefits and all the presumably good stuff. What made you guys decide to move on from the "corporate world" to start your own ventures? How did you know you were ready?
Timing is everything. I believe preparation and opportunity equals success. We’re students of the culture and just decided to apply what we’ve learned over the years at the brands you’re referring to (no need to give them free press).
Garbege has made constant alliances with savvy trendsetters, tastemakers, and celebrities. How do the un-cool or wannabes fit into the Garbege world?
It’s all about self-expression; style over fashion. Be yourself, period.
