Starwood to open first W Hotel in Las Vegas

"NEW YORK,
Aug 24 (Reuters) - Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. plans to open its first W property in Las Vegas, in a $1.7 billion project with a group of private investors.
Starwood would not own the hotel-casino, but will manage the hotel and residential properties.
The project, to be completed in 2008, would be built on 21 acres of land and would be the first W property with a casino. The W Las Vegas will include about 3,000 hotel and residential units, more than ten restaurants and clubs, a 75,000-square-foot casino and 300,000 square feet of meeting space.
Starwood and Edge Resorts bought the land for $108.2 million, with Edge putting up 75 percent and Starwood the rest.
Starwood, which also owns Sheraton and Westin hotels, already operates the Aladdin and Westin hotels in Vegas.
Starwood recently announced plans to launch residential properties, including units in Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Scottsdale, Arizona and Hoboken, New Jersey." [Via Reuters.com]
