Back By Popular Demand - BMW R1200RT & ST
"The new R1200RT & ST models are the latest ones to get the updated 1200 boxer motor and updated shaft drive. However, the big news is the four-cylindered K1200S, which represents a new direction for the Bavarian company into the world of speed and lightness. Although only just launched in the summer of 2004, BMW have surprised everyone with the announcement of a naked version – the K1200R.
Both the R1200RT and ST use essentially the same motor as the R1200GS, but tuned up a bit to deliver 110 hp at 7,500 rpm and 115 Nm of torque (@ 6,000 rpm).
For the R1200RT, that represents a 15 hp increase over the old 1150RT that it replaces, as well as a 20 Kg weight loss (now 229 Kg dry). It'll come with the semi-integral ABS as standard and an adjustable seat with either an 820 or 840 mm height option (there is a lower 780/800mm seat available as an option too). Available colours will be red, silver metallic or graphite metallic.
The R1200ST replaces the old R1150RS, and likewise gets the same boost in power and a 30 Kg drop in weight, to give 205 Kg dry. No other info available at this time.
R1200ST replaces the R1150RS.
BMW reckon that they'll have the RT in showrooms as early as January (it even made an appearance at last weekend's Toronto show), with the ST not coming in until the spring. MSRP for the RT is $23,250.00, but is TBA for the ST." [Via cmgonline.com]
